It seems my intended message did not get thru. Most of the right-wing posters here were not upset with Hunter's pardon since they understood a father's view, they were upset that Joe repeatedly lied and said he wouldn't. In the last few months Trump was repeatedly asked about Jan 6 pardons and his consistent answer was they would do a case-by-case review because the violent ones do not deserve a pardon. I was just trying to call out the hypocrisy of the muted response on Trump lying, especially given the associated crimes. I am not condoning any other pardon Joe Biden did. I agree some set a bad precedent.

Pardon shouldn’t change this. Pardon does nothing beyond keeping Fauci out of facing criminal prosecution. Rand would have nothing to do with a criminal prosecution, he isn’t an US Attorney. If he has the evidence, put it through Senate hearings. This is going to do about the same. Tie up the next 2-3 years of Fauci’s time, make things pretty uncomfortable for him. Fauci is 84 years old. I’d imagine by the time a criminal trial was set after technical delays (see Trump trials), the actual trial happening and sentencing, he’d be close to 90, if alive. Not like he would be put in jail prior to trial. Does it really matter if a criminal trial vs Senate hearing? For someone his age, they are basically the same thing. If found guilty in a criminal trial, what are the odds that he would be alive to serve any time? The important thing is that if there is enough hard evidence that would lead to a conviction, put it in front of the American people in a Senate hearing. In a court case, Federal trials do not allow media coverage. Which then allows the media sources to cherry pick what they report. Senate hearings have cameras.

So if you have to take Grandpa’s car keys (which I wish not having to do on anyone because it is an extremely difficult conversation) in order to prevent them from doing harm to themselves or others and discover that in the last years of driving they never changed the oil; put in a few dents; let the mice move in and chew on everything; let a tire go flat; leave old gas in the 1/4 full tank so it is not only bad, but invites condensation, and you are surprised that when you run it (push it because it doesn’t run) through a car wash and it isn’t instantly fixed of all damages and lapses in care and maintenance, that borders on foolishness, leaning hard toward moronic.
Even the TV car fixer gurus takes weeks or months, sometimes years, depending on the cooperation of others involved (parts suppliers, vendors, subcontractors, etc.) to complete the repairs and restoration. Expecting to change the country faster just shows head-in-the-sand ignorance or outright disillusionment, purposeful or just to be a jerk.
It’s like bringing 50 pounds overweight and expecting a few diet meals and some magic injection will have you looking like Arnold back in the day by the end of the week. It took years to get that far out of shape, it will take a while to get back in.
Hey dardys, you never answered my question. But I have a follow up. So you’re saying it’s gonna take Trump some time to make things affordable for regular everyday Americans, right? But trumps and Melania’s meme coins blew up like tens of billions of dollars in value in just like 5 days. If he is that kind of super money genius who can create so much personal wealth so quickly, then why doesn’t he do the same thing for the regular everyday working Americans that voted for him?

That is a made up story by Trump. The Pentagon turned Trump down. They thought the optics of using military on US citizens was unacceptable (remember Kent State?)

I think this is pretty spot on Pork, and I've probably never had more disdain for a government bureaucrat than I have for Fauci. Fauci was largely a bag man who became a public spokesperson. There are others - Ralph Baric, Peter Daszak, and Francis Collins - who were not given preemptive pardons and each of them had much more involvement in all of this than Fauci did, particularly Baric and Daszak. Other than Rand Paul, I don't think anybody in Trump's administration or Congress has the rocks to carry any of it through though past a Congressional dog and pony show to criminal prosecution if the dog and pony show reveals evidence of criminality. Fauci's pardon and Hunter's pardon both go back to the same date - 1/1/14. Interesting idn't it?

Never saw him smile before but lately smiling and grinning on a regular basics  Reagan was 69 when first elected and started to slur and have memory loss 3 years in. George H.W. Bush had thyroid problems that hindered him with energy. Biden went down hill quickly. The cognitive functions of the human brain deuterates two -- four times faster when we get into our late 70's.

LOL...so why preemptive pardons on siblings and their spouses? What would Trump come after them for? They didnt run for office in 2016 or 2020 or anytime in the past from what I can tell. Innocent people do not need preemptive pardons.

MAGA pushed issues - and it didn't matter if they were true or not - they were pushed so hard they became a lot of voters perception. Dems couldn't combat it. Can't tell you how many stupid "He's for they/them, I'm for YOU" messages were heard. That kind of stuff resonates when heard over and over again. Trans folks are such a low low percentage of humanity, and yet it was a forefront issue because MAGA pushed it to be. Dems need to find a strong messenger who can push back on the BS pushed against them as fact. With all major social media being exclusively right wing now, it's going to be tough. The chance now is that, hopefully we still have elections in '28 - that Trump pushes too far. Vance currently is not a prime candidate for President. For the midterms, who knows. If gas and grocery prices still aren't down, a lot will take notice. Most of his base will take whatever excuse Fox News tells them, but a lot will be angry.

I’ve read quite a few post mortems on the election that touch on the same points. Funny that a lot of these analyses don’t state the obvious “this country isn’t ready for a black woman to be president”, which was undoubtedly a factor. You know what the GOP post mortem on the 2012 election said, after Romney lost? It said that Republicans have to stop making themselves looking like racists and embrace Latinos. And then Trump can along and so much for that analysis eh? But my post wasn’t about “why the democrats lost” it was about “both sides-ism”.

You spelled Christie wrong. He is fat and disgusting. But I’m not judging. AOC over any of who you noted in a heartbeat. She is way too far left for me, but I haven’t seen a hotter politician. Easily take her over Melania too. Laura Trump is pretty close though, if considered politician. Noem by far of the three you noted, if that is who you meant and not Chris... Close ups of the other two, I mean, if single I wouldn’t say no. But they are both average chicks. Bondi was maybe hot 15-20 years ago. Tulsi looks good from far. Also as a side thought,why were so many of the notes/records of the investigation of the protest by the committee of 9 destroyed?
The Acting DOD Secretary made a statement saying he did have a conversation with Trump about bringing in the National Guard. He said that he never passed the offer for extra security to Pelosi because he took Trump's words as a suggestion and not a direct order. Pelosi also states that she never received that offer. OK, Fine, but Trump knows this and still insist Pelosi turned it down.
