dpms Action picked back up this morning. Still not seeing any chasing but I did have 4 bucks cruise past including a stud 8 point at 30 yards. No does seen.
Thanks for the update. No sign of chasing here in 2C-Somerset County.

My wife texted me this evening while I was still at work that there was a good buck in the neighbor’s field that had a doe run up to it and he just ignored her and kept grazing.

I thought tonight was going to be the night but the big 8 had other plans and veered off course passing 50-60 yds away from me. Pretty good evening for only getting out for the last hour of the day. Saw 3 doe and a small buck also.

On the way home from fishing this evening almost hit two different heavy racked buck chasing doe a 1/2 mile up the road. Then there was a group of 14 deer 30-40 yards from the rd. about 300 yards from home before I pulled in the driveway. Only a short drive to the lake. Have a bucket of Perch and some Crappie on ice for the night.

The two buck were on State Park property. The Turkey have destroyed a good bit of my backyard in the past month. Looks like being 70 yards from a green on a golf course. Dang things seem to be everywhere.

Nice morning, though a little warm. Too bad the sightings weren't too good. Saw a fawn, a unicorn spike and 4 turkeys (hens). Thought it would be much better as I saw over a dozen deer along the road edge and in fields on my short drive to my spot. Walked up on a buck on the gas well road I walk in on. Just enough moonlight to see his tail wagging up in front of me before he moved off over the edge. Got up to that spot and could smell his buck stank... Got warm pretty quick and they ticks must be enjoying this weather. Picked several off of me...clothes are in the wash now...not sure my treatment from the beginning of the season was going to be enough so, I grabbed the dog's flea shampoo and took a quick shower with it...lol. I HATE ticks.

Still a week to go here in the SRA including this coming Sunday. I hope to make it out for another sit or two before switching over the deer camp rifle toting, cigar smoking, whiskey drinking, bacon eating mode. I really enjoy archery hunting the late season after Christmas. I look forward to that as much as any time of the year and I will still have some doe tags.

Hoping to get to archery hunt in the snow tomorrow morning. Just hope the wind is manageable or, from a direction I can get out of it in the spot I plan on going.

My last sit before the firearms opener was pretty eventful but no arrows sent. Saw 8 deer throughout the day. I had one doe at 30 yards in thick stuff and just couldn't find a way to confidently send an arrow through it. Picked up a really cool double main beamed buck on trail camera a few times. Switching gears to one man pushes at deer camp for a few weeks then back at it in the late season.

Looking like snow and bitter cold for the opener up here in the Northern part of the state. Gotta love the snow tho, easy to spot em and makes tracking a breeze. Gonna be deer running everywhere as the hunters wont be able to sit still in this cold. Good luck everyone. BH

Up to 71 deer killed now for 19 guys in the management hunt I participate in. I was out Friday afternoon and Saturday hunting those properties. Saw 9 Friday and 10 yesterday but all too far for any shooting. I need slam dunk shots where I am hunting so I like them at 25 or closer. I got together with one of the other hunters and we did some small pushes since it was so warm yesterday. Lots of good deer sign that I need to explore after the season closes on some of the other properties that we can hunt.

We are contracted with a borough to hunt their properties and any private properties that enroll in the program. Borough property is a bit over 1000 acres. The private properties range from just a few acres to over 40 acres. I am not sure how many private properties are enrolled and how many total acres that is. I had 4 private properties assigned to me totaling about 55 acres.

That’s quite a deer density. No wonder they want they culled.

Way too many deer but access is the issue.

Nothing official that I know of. We have a new hunt manager for the past two years and he has been requiring the hunters to keep much better records of every outing to try to establish some data points. The prior manager kept very poor records and the borough basically kicked his crew out and went with this new crew looking for more data. On every hunt I have to record date, time in, time out, property hunted, deer seen, does seen, bucks seen and deer harvested. A doe has to be shot before a buck can be shot and so many deer have to be donated to HUSH.

Punched antlerless tag #4 on a button buck tonight for the management group. Saw 10 deer tonight and this guy was the only one that offered a slam dunk shot.
