Love it Snagr! Congrats on the buck First day of my rutcation. Did an all day sit. Had a shooter 9 point at 30 yards this morning at 10:30. I needed a few more steps. He was coming then he stopped and I could tell he spotted something, Here comes a little 6 point and the 9 wanted no parts of him around. Off he tore after the little buck and he ran out of my hunt. At 5pm, I had a pretty darn nice 7 point comes past at 5 yards the tempted me. I let him walk. Ended up seeing 6 bucks and 8 does. No chasing and all of the does had no bucks with them.

Thanks everyone. Shoulder shot with a busted arrow. Totally jellied half of the near side lung. I was trying to figure out what that shot did till we got inside of it. Front half of the arrow and the broadhead were floating around in the pump house after they did their job. Kinda funny to hear his story and recollection of the shot, and to see that it was probably a little quartering to him and not as broadside as he thought it was. I was sitting 30 yards behind him in my comfy camp chair where I could see him in his tree stand but could not see the deer or the shot. Pretty fun to watch him react as it played out in front of him not knowing what he was seeing. He's 6 for 6 with the cross bow (3 bucks and 3 does) and is happy that he got clearance Friday to start shooting his compound again after shoulder surgery this summer. He broke both wrists last fall and couldn't use his compound for most of archery season last year either.

Thanks. It has gone downhill since. Barely saw any deer yesterday or today. I did have a slammer at 40 yards today though, but he was cruising past as I was putting on my backup at the car to head in at 2pm for the evening hunt. He stopped to watch me frantically****my crossbow but didn't stick around long enough for me to take a shot.

Tell him congrats! Been awhile since I checked the pages here. Had the buck in the pic at 30 yds Saturday morning but couldn't seal the deal. I lost all my background leaf cover at this location now and even at 30 ft. Up in the air, coming in from the direction he came, I was skylined and he busted me. So disappointed... if he took that trail left, 25 yd shot.. if he took it right, 20 yd shot...but he decides to cut off it and come right towards me. Definitely got the heart pumping for the 8 min. Or so he was milling around under the honeysuckle 45 yds out.. just bummed I didn't get any video or pics of him...

What brand of bow everybody shooting? I had an older Mathews Drenalin....bows these days have really changed with looks and cams. Kicking tires on a new one but then I saw the price tag on some of these bare bows.

Today was my day after a very slow start to my rutcation. I am sure the warm weather has not helped. I went to one of the properties that I am hunting in a management doe hunt where I've been seeing pretty good action on the trail cameras, mostly at night. I pulled in at 2:00 and got settled into the stand and by 2:30 already saw three cruising bucks. At 3:30 I heard some noise over my right shoulder and I turned and had a half rack staring at me from 20 yards. I've seen him before. He had me pegged but kept looking behind me. It was then that I heard the steady footfalls in the leaves of something coming directly behind me and towards my left shoulder. I quickly grabbed my bow and swung to the left and saw dark chocolate antlers already even to me and walking briskly. With no time to look at him closely I knew he was a heavy frame and big bodied deer. He had that mature buck swagger to him. By the time I got on him he was about 25 yards quartering away and I stopped him with a mouth grunt and let one fly. I heard the hollow thunk we like to hear and off he took with tail tucked between his legs. He dropped over a hill and I lost sight of him but did not hear him crash. I could see my arrow sticking in a tree so I climbed down to inspect it and the blood looks good. I gave the buck about 20 minutes and slowly took up the trail. When I got to where I thought he would be I couldn't see him and started to get a little nervous. After 10 more steps I saw him. He died in a little depression. It was a perfect double lung shot. Shot him with the Excalibur Twin Strike which for those that don't know has two limbs, two arrows and two triggers. I thought I pulled the first trigger which is the top limb which is the one you are supposed to shoot first but after I looked at my bow I realized in my excitement I pulled the back trigger and shot him with the lower arrow which will hit about 2 inches lower than where you're aiming. It worked out well though. Pretty darn stoked about this buck. It looks to be a nice mature Allegheny County buck and I really like his dark antlers. His brow tines are long and thickly bladed. I thought he was an 8-point when I shot him but he turned out to be a 9 point. Good luck to all of those still out there trying to punch their tags. It's going to get really good over the next week. Hang in there and I look forward to the pictures. Thanks for reading.

Kicking tires on a new one but then I saw the price tag on some of these bare bows. I would check around on the internet for a used one. We probably have 10 or so laying around. The ones we pick up are usually like new, come loaded with extras, plus trigger release, arrows, extra blades, practice tips a case and are top name brands. Lots of people switch to a cross bow anymore. In reality any bow should work just fine. When I first started out killed deer with a recurve then Indian Stalker then Whitetail Hunter and so up the line. It's practice and confidence more than anything. A very nice like new used bow loaded can be had for a fraction of the cost as it was new. Good Luck

They are like golf clubs. New models come out every year and some people have to have the newest. They think it will make them better at the sport. Then they sell last years model or set at a loss. When I was a kid selling bows at a sporting goods store a mechanical trigger release wasn't even lawful for hunting or fiberoptic sights in Pa. Back to one of your questions, google the pros and cons on the difference between a single and double cam. That can help you decide what you are looking for. Was looking for some Muskie lures a couple weeks ago at my sons place up north and came across over 60 new trail cams and some large totes of archery hunting razor tips Rage ect. all new in the packages looked very nice selection. Told him to sell the trail cams for Christmas. He said he is not allowed to sell the hunting tips doing his tackle shows. All those totes will be taking up room for the next 20 years. Nice deer guys.

Congrats fellas on the nice bucks. Blew it again last night...moved my stand farther down the hill off the bench I was hunting, which worked better with last night's wind. 20 min after setting up, 5 point walked under me. About an hour later heard something to my right and low working by. Mouth grunted and then hit grunt tube and it started working my way. So thick but finally get a glance with binocs and know it's a shooter. Unfortunately, coming up hill at me and u need to switch sides. With his pace, I probably did that move faster than I should have. He caught movement...luckily my tree was between he and I so he didn't blow out of there but did start down the hill and angling away. No shot opportunity. Looked similar in frame to Saturdays deer but was a different one. So far today, seen a 2, 4, 6 and non shooter 8 point and the same 2 fawns 2 different times. Once they leave my proximity, I think I'll be getting down...

Congrats again. That makes you 4 deer now, doesn't it. 4 less deer to be road kills. We drove from home to Erie Sunday(200 miles)and saw about 30 road kills along the way.
