Heard that they found the boat just off the pumphouse.  That isn't that deep of H20.  Can't believe that they couldn't have made it to shore from anywhere near there.

Youd be suprised how fast you lock up in cold water. I jumped off the howard bridge one year in may, i nearly drown the instant i hit the water. It took every ounce of willpower to swim to shore.

This post hits close to home. My brother and two friends were fishing at Pymatuning many years ago. The one man a newly wed of several weeks and his first fishing trip. In a sudden burst of wind from a storm front the boat capsized.....the newly wed didn't make it. My brother never got over that incident.....never fished there again and sold his boat. Cold water is like electricity.....unforgiving.

There was a piece on the local news this evening.  So far they have not found the fisherman.  They are going to bring a team in tomorrow with sonar to search.  I think at this point it is no longer a rescue, but a recovery.  That is too bad.  I hope everyone who heads out on the water will be careful.  Pafisher is right on the money, cold water is very dangerous.

Wally sorry to hear about your brother.

During a cpr class one time the instructor related a story. He was a paramedic for years and years...One day it was slow at the station and they wanted to see exactly how much and how quickly a person's pulse dropped when submerged in cold water...they set up an experiment...they filled a large cooler with ice water and submerged the head of the instructor for 6-7 seconds... his pulse before being submerged was around 70-75 beats per min., after he was submerged his pulse crashed to less than 30 beats per min.

Should probably where your PFD when water temps are below 50 and or inclement weather. Especially in the smaller boats.
I fish out of a 14' princecraft and will put mine on if things look sketchy. I purchased two of the inflatable but pack type PFD and they are quite comfortable compared to the full vests.

Terrible accident, but it amazes me every year that I see a group of 3 or 4 sometimes 2 guys in a 12' john boat with 6 inches of freeboard and 2 foot waves.  Every year!!!!!  Pymatuning can kick up, I think too many people don't know that.

We were trolling on pyma once and looking down the lake it looked kinda weird. It didn't register for a while that we were looking at white caps coming down the lake it got bad real quick.

Pymy has claimed many fishermen and waterfowl hunters lives throughout the years . It's a dangerous shallow lake to small crafts during windy conditions.
