Coyote and Fox Fur

Gentlemen,
Is Coyote or Fox fur of any use in Tie Flying?   A couple of my friends and I have waxed a couple of each this winter and I was wondering if I should save the tails or the neck fur or anything for my fly tying friends?   Also if the fur is any good; is winter pelt better than summer pelt?

    Ind,
Here is a pattern that I have found so far. Out west coyote seams to be very popular for Coyote mask and tails. I will keep looking for a few patterns.

Coyote Zonker Strips: Longer zonker hair, useful for pike, bass or other strip flies. Colors: Black, Red, Yellow, Olive, Natural. Was $3.50, NOW $1.75

inds, yes as far as fox fur. i have a pelt. i use the under body fur for a lot of patterns, gray fox dries. i also use it and blend it with other furs. when i get home i'll give you direct patterns the fox fur is used for. ~dt (if you want to throw the fox fur out i have a big basket for furs.)

inds, the red fox fur i have has about 3 to 4 shades of under fur i use for dubbing. the traditional dry patterns that use fox fur are
    1. march browns, #12 (i usually mix some light brown seal fur in with the fur belly fur for mine),
    2. gray fox dry #14 (i tie these, and some with a light ginger hackle stem for the body) both of these patterns are my killer flies during the hatch on kettle creek.
    3. female hendricksons, use the pinkish urine-burned fur from the belly of the fox. another killer dry #14-#12
    4. light cahills.  down by the tail and some mid fur has a very light yellowish color for these bodies. #16-#14 oil creek
wet flies; light cahills, light hendricksons
i use natural furs as much as possible over synthetics. i got into fly fishing for the mystique of tying flies using natural materials. i feel more satisfied catching a fish on something i tied with natural materials than pre made or formed plastic appendages or wings. but than that's just me.

as luvinbluegills said. all furs are good for tying something. and don't pass up that dead bird on the side of the road without first checking out its feathers.

Fox tail can be used to make shrimp. You can cut the hide in small strips too... lay it in a dubbing loop, then cut the hide strip off and make some INSANE buggy flies.
