donegal lake

Just heard the latest plans for the lake, they are planning to let it fill this fall & winter, then stock it with Bass & Panfish & other warm water fish. Then stock it with Trout for the Spring. The first year or two will be catch & release for everything except Trout which will be legal to keep according to state regs.Hopefully this along with the structure being placed now will bring back the excellent fishing that used to be there before the drawdown. I hope that they will put in special regs. for size & limits of the bass & panfish so as to make it a better fishery.   sam

without doing massive dredging, filling the lake will be almost a waste of time

phish, It would be better if they did dredge it,but as it was before the drawdown the lake had excellent fishing for a variety of fish. We were there when they drained it & found it hard to believe the size & numbers of Bass & Crappie that were retrieved. It will be better when they put in the cribs & other structure at least for the guys in boats.   sam

How was the catfish population in there when they drained it?? I saw pictures of big cats in that bait shop next to the lake years ago but never caught any?

catman, There were some nice ones, but I was not there all day & didn't see any monsters. Last year or the year before a guy caught what would have been a pa.state record flathead but someone else tried to turn it in & got caught. It was on you-tube.   sam

That's what I thought I saw pictures of Flatheads. Interesting how they got in there?

Sam I got Donegal on my bucket list of places to see in PA. Have the Donegal campgrounds 'earmarked' as a layover.

Must say I'm pleasantly surprised to hear the lake is being refilled sooner then later as I didn't plan on wetting a line.

    Good news, thanks for posting.
