Can't be that cheap to raise. They don't get big overnight. I have no idea how anyone in the bait business earns a living.

If u got time Creek chubs are plentiful and easy to catch in most ditches I think they work better anyways, minnow traps are the best investment I made especially for small sized ones .....F paying $7 a dozen for minnows

I agree. Just curious about the price, if it's just around here or all over.

I think that is what they are at O’Donnell’s near Lake Arthur/Moraine. I haven’t bought any for a while though. Like said, those bait shops barely make anything. More doing a service to us. Everything costs too much now days.

I remember paying $4.50 in the late 90's at both Richter's and Dean's in the Indiana, PA area.  I plugged that into an inflation calculator, and says $7.29 is equivalent...

Island Firearms on Neville Island were 4 bucks a month ago. Chubs are tougher and more active fresh out of the trap, and free. My local trap hotspots were dirty so I bought em. Of course, depends what you're fishing for and where. A few weeks ago on Niagara, shiners were the hot bite. I doubt creek chubs would have done the same. They were about 7/ dozen for spottails.

Trapping creek chubs would be ideal but my normal spots are all approved trout waters which isn't allowed now.

Don't know how many shiners are in a pound, but last year Lock 3 Bait & Tackle had shiners for $7.50 a pound. I know of a couple of small creeks where I could put in a trap and in an hour it'd be full. One creek; we use to go upstream about 20 feet with a seine and you could barely lift it. This is in the spring only. Actually, I do better with fatheads, but that's just me.

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A bait wholesaler in Niagara Falls sells shiners by the pound, 20 bucks. Over a hundred in a bag, but not large, medium to small. Interesting to note, he puts them in a bag and fills it with pure O2, they are good for days in that bag, no aerator needed. And since he is a wholesaler they are as fresh and active as can be. A-1 Bait. He has always packed more for me, Ron is a great guy, still amazing to me he makes a living doing that. I think a waiter in a nice restaurant would make more for way less effort.

Between 25/30 large would be a pound. Not bad for 7.50.
