waxworms in bulk anywhere?

Im gettin tired of goin to BAC (not bashing him personally but it is a litte pricy for the 10 waxies he gives you) and getting less than what i need cause i cant chunk out 10$ for waxies..is there a place where i can get them a little cheaper for more?

You can get them off the net from $20-$30 per 1000

    Try the wormman.com  or beaverbait.com

there was once an old thread here about raising your own.
All it takes is a fish tank, honey, wheat germ, and some vegtables peelings.
I purchased 50 back in sept. and now I have about 200 or so.
    Try finding the thread/
If not go the internet and look up raising wax worms
The only down side I have is catching them when I want to fish
sometimes I loose a few.......the wife doen't like that so much in the basement

It depends on where you live.  I buy my maggots, fatheads and wax worms locally the night before each trip to Erie.  Minnows are 79 cents a dozen and maggots are 89 cents for 100...I forget what the waxies are, but I'm sure the price is as right as the minnies and maggots!

That is a stretch, even for a devoted fly fisherman. Cabelas has them in bulk, 500 for about 35 dollars I believe.

I'm very familiar with the terms "RUN AND GUN" and "FISH ON!"

Thats a good question and I'd say that the biggest differences are size and action.  The jig is typically much larger, almost always sinks and with most of it's weight toward the head...gives it a unique action allowing the jig to swim parallel to the bottom and jigged vertically up and down without much effort.  Most flies are either dead drifted floating or sinking or streamed/stripped directly toward the fisherman.

Once again...Oh how some threads can turn!

i....'ve not heard good things about cabelas bait. most are dead, and besides that is real expensive for the price. the local bait store has 500 for $6. go with a wholesale bait dealer.

the early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I don't even know the name, it is the one in the white building at the top of the hill, with the archery range indoors as well.

I bought a big tub of waxies from poor richards this fall.  250, I think they charged me 8 bucks, can't remember though.

As far as fishing flies through the ice, you can do it, gills and crappie love beadhead pheasant tails, just put a small shot up the line about ten inches, you'll have two marks on your flasher then, occassionally you can watch the fish come up and check out the shot. Bait sure helps, I did catch some without tipping it, but tipping it with a maggot got more aggessive strikes.  You can also tie them off a dropper from the back of a jigging spoon.
