You guys think it’s worth heading over for Lakers off North East this weekend or is 38° too cold? Water has never been so chilly this time of April since we started trolling. Also thinking of nearshore Walleye along the peninsula (C&R of course since I think they’re closed for harvest until May).

It's always worth a shot. However, more than water temp I'd be worried about water clarity after the last blow.  Today's Modis image it looks pretty cloudy from nearshore out a good ways. I've had bad experiences fishing for lakers when its a bit too stained.

I hadn’t even thought of that, thanks for the tip, I’ve never considered clarity as a factor in the past. I may well wait for next weekend then, not worth making the 20 mile drive on the water to get skunked. There’s always something to catch in Erie!

Lake is mess. Drummer is dead nuts...Lakers do not bite in dirty water. Period.
Bay was 39 at 630am and got up to a whopping 40 at 2pm. Pretty dirty too.

Have you ever thrown a camera on a rigger when you tried to fish when it was dirty water up on top?  Just wondering if the water clarity stratifies like it does for temperature.  I know it did in the GOM but, you also have fresh water mixing with salt nearshore so that added another variable.
There would be times the top 20-30' of water was crystal clear but the bottom 20' was very low vis and high current.  The opposite would occur too.

Anyone else fishing Lakers this weekend? Hopefully the waves are under two feet and the water isn’t mud.... I’m probably dreaming.

10-14' waves, occasional 18'er later today gale force winds.  My guess is the laker grounds will be pretty tore up.

Think Sunday (or even tomorrow) will be worth anything out deeper, like 80-140 FOW? Maybe I can escape the mud if I go far enough offshore. I’m guessing nearshore Walleye is out all weekend too with this forecast.

Well, we’re going to head offshore in a bit here. Lake is calm enough, anyway. Will give a report if we move anything.

Shoreline is muddy for about 4 miles out then it’s crystal clear out 6+ miles. We’re 3/4 so far. Nothing big but grinding along and it’s pretty pleasant out here.

No problem, and thanks! We ended up going 5/7 yesterday, couldn’t move any fish after 12:30. Tried casting the pier on our beach for Eyes after dark but no dice. Saw a few big Shad jumping but I think the 3-6 inch visibility killed any bite that wouldn’t existed.

We hit the main lake Sunday trying to hunt down some walleye. Morning was gorgeous, way less than 1 footers, slightly overcast and hazy. Went out of East Ave, headed towards the rock piles in 12 to 20 FOW hoping to find a few Smallmouth, no dice. Picked up and headed north of the dumping grounds,48 to 60 FOW, marked a few, but no takers. Divemaster is correct, not the best visibility near-shore. There is also a ton of floating debris out there......be really careful if your up on plane. Some of it is hard to see. Luckily for Sunday morning, it was flat enough to see most of it.

I thought about making a run West, but every time I make a long run when it is flat, it kicks up for the ride back. Since the day wasn't looking too promising, we headed back to port.
