High Point Lake

Has anyone been to high point lately to see the water level? Can a larger boat be launched at this time?
I know they did the drawdown and it should be a good time to hit the lake since the weeds will be down.

few weeks ago it was too low.
i had spoken with the nicklows bait shop a few days before and they said it was ok to launch a boat.
point being, bait store 10 mins away did not have accurate report on water level.

having said that, with this recent rain, i'd give it a 99% chance of being ok to launch a boat.

    Thanks guys...

I assume with the all the rain it will be ok to launch but I was hoping to find out for sure before I drag my boat up there, it takes me an hour to get there and I would hate to not be able to launch.

Tank38, keep us posted here...I am getting the high point itch myself! There should be a few other places you can head to if you are unable to launch at Highpoint.

Can you actually eat a pickerel and how would you prepare it?

Fire tiger husky jerk over the weeds!

They are really good, with white, firm flesh.  You just can't be scared of putting a little work into the fillets.  Youtube it, it isn't as hard as you think.

seasoned flour/egg wash/ bread crumbs or cornmeal

    squirt of lemon juice

It would also be the best thing you could do for the fishery, a lake full of skinny stunted 13" picks is a terrible lake.  They are there, shouldn't be, but now you can't get rid of them.  At least don't let them overpopulate and stunt.

What an awesome day on the water we had this past Saturday. We caught 15 pickerel, 10 largemouth, a few bluegill and a couple crappy, the bass ranged from 2 pounds to the largest being a 6 pounder that my brother-in-law caught. The water was nice and clear with very little weeds, there must have been about 30 boats on the water most of the day.

I stopped by the south launch Saturday on my way through. Yes, so many boats out. It was crazy. Great day to fish in the overcast/rain. Did really well on the kayak Monday morning in the overcast. Sun came out, wind picked up, fishing dropped off. Lake was clear and cold.
