Some food for thought regarding gear for river fishing the big-un's vs lake fishing.
Them fishes (if) hooked, have the river current to thier advantage.
While heavy rod and reel are not needed, chucking exceptionally larger than the average Crappie lure, sometimes many; many; many; times, does require the appropriate gear. In addition, if one wishes to prevent the loss of a big-un or a very pricey, bigger than the average Crappie lure, one need consider the use of a quality leader. Those Musky, especially the big-un's, are known to do a "death roll".
Lastly, especially when fishing from a boat, learn to do the "figure 8" while the lure is along side, 'before' lifting it from the water.
Musky are known to follow those bigger than average fishing lures right up to the boat, only to be watched swim away, after one has just made his 600,000,000 cast.
