If you have a boat I'd try the Allegheny. Otherwise skip the rivers unless you're an experienced musky guy, I've found them to be rather unproductive (for Musky) from shore, but that may just be my experience. I think there's a few good lakes down that way as well that may be worth trying.

I'm in the process of buying a boat. I'd like to stay off rivers for now. Until I got used to driving a boat haha. I heard there are a good population of musky in the loyalhanna. I've never seen one caught anywhere I fish. I don't know anywhere where I could go that would give me a good chance without driving 100 miles.

The best places i know of are Loyalhanna lake and Bridgeport reservoir but u would need a boat. If your planning on fishing without one i would suggest below Loyalhanna dam.

Thanks for ask the advice. Getting a boat within a week or two. When and what kind of day would be best. I know they like warmer water. What's a good lure/bait I've been seeing creek chubs and big spinners

I'm a firm believer in jerkbaits as far as casting lures go, anything in the 6-12" range for the most part.

Donegal lake, Bridgeport Dam, Keystone State Park all give up a couple every year, but are not really destination spots. I have gotten some (mostly small ) at each, but they are close to you.I also got one at the Aquatorium at Mon, City I had a nice one on at Donegal while I was reeling in a Crappie. This past Wed. 4-13-16 a buddy @ a few others were watching some Trout at Donegal Lake when he said a Musky slashed through the school &.. nabbed a Trout & rolled in front of them. I would not go anywhere that they stock Trout in this week-end. Going strictly for Musky, I think that trolling big lures & covering lots of water would be your best bet. good luck sam

I have seen a few caught by the Aquatorium in Mon city myself. Also a few downstream from there across from boat launch in New Eagle.

The whole problem is that to get to any really decent musky fishing you have to drive over 2 hours. I just drive to Ohio where I have a better chance.

i have a boat and not yet have caught a musky out of it haha but i have caught some musky wading the waters. Ive been stopping by a fish hatchery where they have the musky growing. The guy was real nice and talked to us for like an hr or so. He said they are enhancing the program and finally they are finding out how to feed them so they arent eating each other before they get stocked. Seems like its working since ive been just going to where they stock them and catching them off a creek chub on a bobber.

Just read about survey at Lake Arthur. Such a shame used to be a great muskie lake and only 45 minutes from home. three years ago decided to fish it hard. started in May and fished to November, 17 trips and hooked only one fish. Hard to go back. Used to do so good plus caught my biggest fish there.
