Charlie Collins Hackle

I was wondering if any of you have any comments on Collins hackle. Im thinking about buying a barred dun neck/cape as I hear they are the best of the best hackles.

Before I drop $50 on hackle I cant see does anyone have anything to say about it?

For those of you unfamiliar with collins hackle as its not distributed everywhere collins offeres many barred types of necks. The idea behind using a barred vs a conventional neck is that its more buggy looking.

i use barred saddle hackle for my wooly buggers and legs on nymphs. also if i find some smaller sizes in the saddles i use them as hackle on some of my blue duns to green drakes. i think the barring gives more of a look that the fly is moving it's wings to take of or such. let me know how you like'm. are they dyed or naturally barred? got to watch the dye they use though. if it's not very good, when wet it will bleed onto whitish flies. ~dt

Will do, i have to send him a self addressed stamped envelope

The barred hackle is NATURAL...not dyed thats why I am so interested. I cant find barred dun anywhere. Im most interested in that.

The best thing about the hackle is you buy the cape and they GIVE you the saddle!

I first took interest in him after reading an article in fly tyer.
