marabou thundercreek
fishenfool, here's the tye for the thundercreek shiner i tye. your pm inbox is always full. i got your last pm.
hook; #9214 #10 or #8. sproat offset hook. any long streamer hook will work. i like to offset the point though
thread; white
weight; optional, .010 or .015 lead wire
body; 2-3 strands kreinik metallics #001 silver braid or 1 strand #001 cable (get at a craft store)
underbody: three strands of white craft silk.
throat; white marabou
wing; olive marabou, same length of white marabou
gill; red magic marker
eyes; optional, stick ons
the craft silk is just a base to tye the body over.
tye the body leaving about 1/3 behind the eye open for the head.
tie in weight and body in first
tie the white marabou in at the end of where you tied off the body, underneath the hook. put the tail of the marabou facing and over the eye of the hook. thread wrap over the marabou to just before the hook eye
tie the olive marabou above the hook, only wrap in the marabou from behind the hook eye back to the area where you started tying in the white marabou, this will be the gill area
fold the olive back overtop and tye off at the gill area
fold the white back underneath and tye off.
tight wrap over both marabou's at least 5 more wraps and tie off.
paint the white thread you just tyed off with a red magic marker and this is the gills.
head cement over the gill area..
you could put stick on eyes on the head if you like and head cement these on.
for the emerald shiner i used #045 kreinik blending filament but i can't find it any more. any one that does, please let me know i'll buy it from you. now i use 2 strands of green micro tinslel with 2 strands of #032 blending filament.
for a golden body i use #.002 gold blending filament
hopefully someone will post a picture so you all can see the fly. i use these in shallower waters where trout and steelies are holding mostly. weight it down for deeper waters.
