big surprize
While fishing for bull gills yesterday, I set the hook on a lunker big but strange fight ensued on my ultra-light St. Croix rod with 4# line. Finally got it to shore. It was an approx.15# snapping turtle with the jig in the corner of the mouth. Best part is, that it was the same spot that I hooked a big turtle on a pop-r 2 yrs ago.Must be the result of C&R. lol sam

btdt, back in the day,I used to catch snappers by hand, was featured in several publications & also on a T. V. show & made a video. We tried a lot of different recipes but I liked the young ones deep fried the best. btw no bulls, just dinks & some small perch. sam

Never tried deep fried but I've sure eaten my share of soup. Tried the heavy bisque style soups of the east coast but I enjoy the thinner broth styles I've eaten in Cambridge Springs. Not many restaurants serve the soup anymore, that I know of. I've watched the programs on T.V. and YouTube where people went noodling for turtles and catfish, No thanks, my luck I'd get grabbed by a crockagator or a giant hellgramleach or sumthin! BTW, nothing funner than landing biggins using a U/L Croix and 4 lb. test line! Take care and good fishing. PS. You still have all your fingers and stuff?

Good gosh Sam, you just brought back memories for me when I chaired a comm. for a PA. State Firemen's Assn. Convention one year. It was a week long event and Firefighters from the Jeannette, Irwin, Latrobe area were in attendance and I got invited to a "Tent City" supper that featured 'turtle soup'. Seems those guys learned of my weakness for the stuff and requested my presence to a 'not so formal' dinner of soup, chock full of turtle meat and, all the beer a guy could drink. Geez had I known, before hand, my answer for what kind a beer I wanted should be "Rolling Rock"..... I wouldn't of had to wear that stupid shell on my head! Who Knew?

Never forgotten............... Did any of your crew or perhaps someone from a mutual aid company play a bugle, by chance?
