It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood but, not a beautiful day for fishing the neighborhood. I would have to say it was a bit tough fishing Shenango yesterday (Thursday) even though the weather was delightful. Sunny skies with just enough wind to create a ripple on the water and allow slow drifting motion.
Plenty of anglers, both on shore and on the water, all giving the same report of few fish ranging from small to keepers. Mostly crappy and blue gills with some walleye, cat fish and, musky thrown in.
I hit the water about 2:00 pm tossing my usual 1/32 oz. jig, tipped with a variety of tube baits, in the areas where I did quite well just a few days before and..... nothing. I did see a bunch, no............ schools, ummmm......... LARGE schools of carp......... wherever the sun was hitting the water. Pretty sure I'll be taking up fishing with a bow, in the near future, as soon as I figure what to do with CARP!
Anyway, picked up two of my nephews around 5:00 pm and trucked back out for some more fishing. Fishing was still slow with a crappy here, or a catfish and, a bluegill there. Wasn't as 'boring' this time around as we were being entertained by skiers trying, I think, to induce self- bodily-harm jumping waves on their wake boards. Wasn't so much the antics of the skiers as it was the rocking of our boat, from their wake, that kept us from falling asleep.
Nephew in the front was tossing fatheads under a bobber, the nephew in the back was throwing crank bait(s) and, the old guy in the middle catching fish (that would be me) was chucking his 1/32 oz. jigs. Again, not a lot of fish and a mixed bag at that but, we started catching. So, between the fish and the tidal wakes all-in-all, it turned out to be a interesting afternoon.
Guess who caught em?
Not trophy by any means but, sure was a good time catchin-em with a 1/32 oz jig, Shimano Reel spooled with 4 lb test line on, a 6 1/2 ft. ultra-lite 'Croix'.
Til next time............ good fishing to all.
