Home Made Bait Cooler

Got sick and tired of dragging buckets around and using cheap aerators so I decided to make my own portable bait tank. The general idea came from some others I've seen built but I tweaked it out to suit my needs. Pump used was a tsunami 500. I mainly fish for flatheads so I needed something larger to keep my big baits alive and healthy. I attached a 12v cigar plug to the power end so I can plug it into my car or boat. I also purchased a wall plug power transformer so I can keep bait alive all week in my garage. Its also attached to a timer so that it only kicks on 15 minutes of every hour so I don't burn out the pump as fast. Also, I added a submersible light from ebay so there is no more fumbling around in the dark trying to feel around for the specific fish that I want. Figured some of you might find it interesting or would even want to take a stab at building one yourself. If you have any questions or want a parts list let me know...

No problem fisherlady! It was a fun little project to do and is super helpful in the long run. Best part is it was overall pretty cheap from start to finish.

Nicely done.  I like the light... that's something mine doesn't have.  You're probably a hundred or so into that one?  I bought a pre-built off of this guy:

It is the 18 gallon one and it is the bees knees.  Bout $240 into it after shipping.  The guy has great customer service... he rush shipped it to me with very little notice for our last OBX trip.  Loaded it with 6-9" mullet every day and hauled it around beach fishing.  Dream tank.  The filter is a great touch too.  I'm guessing you are keeping gills in that cooler tank, and those guys can really pump out the solid waste.  You could probably design a PVC cartridge over your pomp intake to accomplish the same thing.

Anyway, A+ for the DIY, especially for adding a video!

Thanks zelie! Yeah im mostly using gills and chubs. They foul up the water pretty quick. Im definitly going to install some sort of filter at some point. Everything ran me a little under 100 bucks.
