Tick question

What is the best "safe" product to help prevent ticks and where can I get it. The ticks are bad this year and I'm worried about my 10 year old daughter's health when we are squirrel hunting. I had three on me in a matter on mins last time out. But I don't want to jepordize her health with straight Deet either. She has medical issues already and takes a lot of meds and has her liver function checked regularly do the the meds. I don't think 100% deet would be healthy for her.

    There are some good natural products out there.I would do a good spot check on return.

    Jeb I wear  light (white) long-johns having elastic cuffs around wrist/ankles.  The ankle cuffs are tucked into the socks to keep the bugs/ticks from getting under my clothing and the wrist are tucked under my gloves.  The lighter the clothing the easier to see a bug/tick when doing a visual inspection upon returning home.  An old old trick to keeping warm was to wear a pair of pantyhose (HEYYYYY, you guys,  If Joe Namath could do 'er so, can I) and I imagine these would afford some great protection against bugs/ticks.  I'd even go so far as having a hair net for some added protection.
     
    As for the sprays/chemicals; a quick call to your pediatrician is in order.
     
    Last but not least; Google the subject for added info.

    if one gets in your skin, put dawn
    dish soap on it , it will back out.

    Permithrin sprays on exterior clothing only. Let it dry before you wear. You'll be able to watch the ticks die as they try to climb up your clothes. Very safe as long as it dries and it will last a long time.

    I have purchased concentrate permethrin from Tractor Supply / Agway and mixed my own solution(0.5%) with very good success. I have actually stopped hunting just to watch those little b***tards crawl on my pants leg and start flailing and die.

    The ticks are real bad this year, I have had atleast  10 of them on my body already this years.  Counting some shore fishing and Archery, Scouting. This gun season I will be praying the carp out of my outer layer and use the body jell on the body. I even plan on fogging my ground blind. Not to worried about the scent. By the time any deer will catch it ,It will be WAY to late LOL   Good Luck and BE Safe

    My wife is an herbalist and makes an all natural insect repellent. Look for Lee's Teas on Etsy the spray is called bug-b-gone. It works, but obviously it's not as effective as chemical sprays and only repels insects. You need to re-apply frequently, but it least it doesn't smell like poison.
