mamoth

Trout weren't hitting too well yesterday. Did have a palomino attack one of my minnows but he didn't eat it. Changed scenery and was able to get a 12 or so lb carp on my 4wt on a fly I designed and tied specifically for carp. It was a chore to cast the weighted waterlogged bunny strip fly the 40 ft or so that I needed. Had to use my horrible double hauling skills to get it out there accurately. But the fish certainly saved my day.

nothing in particular. Just something black with a lot of movement when sitting still. I did a lot of research on successful carp flies and that's what I came up with. Its sort of my take on on the leather trouser worm fly. I added a bushy black/orange dubbed body, some rubber legs, and didn't weight it as much as this was very shallow water. I'll try to post a pic of the fly later.

this is the fly that it ate. Might look like a leech or crayfish, but I don't think either of those are in mammoth.

Carp were a bit more scarce in the spot today. But the trout were being pretty aggressive. Caught a brown and 2 rainbows. One went 22". It was really tricky to get a hook set because they were just nipping and spitting the minnows a couple times to kill them. The last fish, the big one, took about 6 or 7 minnows to hook him.
