Opening day special regs doe

I started off the early season perched in a stand overlooked some dropping oaks this morning. It almost happened at 7:00 when a lone doe walked behind me at ten years but did not offer a shot. I hung tight till 10 then climbed down.

After my daughter signed my arrow, the afternoon found me back in the same stand at 3:00. I wasn't in there 10 minutes and a fawn fed on past. At 3:30, a doe and her fawn fed past out of range, scooping up acorns as they went. I thought, this is going to be a good evening.

At 4:00, two deer came my way and one stopped in some brush, which is really think around here, on the opener. I knew it was a baldie but wasn't sure if it was the doe or the fawn, so I held my clear 10 yard shot at her vitals. Well, she turned and it became apparent I had the big doe dead to rights and hesitation cost me a shot on here. I did not get another shot and she fed off while her fawn hung around for awhile.

At around 5:00, a snap over my left shoulder alerted me to a lone doe feeding at 15 yards. After I looked her over, I new she was mature and wasted no time sending the Easton, tipped with a 2 inch Swhacker into her vitals. I heard her crash, but it took me about thirty minutes to find her in the honeysuckle thicket she ran into.

Not a bad way to start of the season, here in Pa! Here is the arrow my daughter personalized for me a few hours before I used it. It says "Good Luck" "Love U"

Here is the nice doe after dragging her from the honeysuckle. She was double lunged and made it about 60 yards.

And the hero shot. Shot with a TenPoint Vapor, Easton FMJ, Pine Ridge Nitro vanes, Lumenoks, and 2 inch Swhackers.

It is always sweet to fill a tag on the opener. Everything fell into place tonight. Lets hope we see many fellow members sharing their success this year as well!!

I enjoy reading about successful hunts, especially those resulting with a quick kill from a well placed shot. Thanks for sharing and congratulations.

Thanks. I am not finding any bucks this year. I think my hopes will be pinned on the rut as bucks start cruising.

And the madness starts-----nice shot Gene. I have been following several shooters all summer but as usual, about the time  they rubbed they went nocturnal on me. Drop the hammer, put away the lawn mower and lets get on to more important things. LOL

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

    Well done!

It was a little too warm for me to venture out and next weekend looks to be just as warm.  I'm probably going to hold off until the official opener.

Nice, Clean and efficient. The only two things that matter when filling the freezer. There certainly are a lot of photos with you, that x-bow, and fresh venison on this site. Kudos.
My x-bow gets new optics today. A last minute decision, but necessary at this point. Nine days to go.
