Best places to catch walleye?

Hello I was wondering if there is any places good for catching and eating walleye in westmoreland county? I have caught a lot of them in Loyalhanna lake but do not think its good to eat fish out of there was wondering if anyone knew of any better places.

zdub, I fear this may be like asking for the location of moonshine stills or the passwords to people's online checking accounts!!

fishinguy there are tons of them there if u know how to fish it I caught over 50 of them last year. but their numbers are dying off quickly I see a lot of people taking out coolers full of them but I wouldn't eat out of there the water is so polluted. I don't know why people have to take their limits in fish every time they go out though why not put some of them back and let other people have the fun of catching the fish to.

They are SOO tasty! And perhaps the most elusive freshwater fish! Catch em' if you can.

I kinda agree with those questioning "lots of walleye in loyal".  probably presented 10K minnows and worms to whatever will hit, in many depths, over many decades and never caught a walleye - musky, bass, cats, carp and "steelhead trout" (do a search on Loyalhanna steelhead for an interesting discussion) but never a walleye.

so what's the technique you use for the tons of walleye in Loyalhanna?

I don't share your concern about eating fish from Loyalhanna - I've eaten lots of gills and crappie and no problems - although I do notice my hair has turned grey!.

According to the article in this past Sundays Trib, Pymatuning seems to be the best walleye lake around.  The Yough Dam holds a fair number of walleyes as well.

There is walleye in the loyalhanna lake or atleast what appeared to be a walleye( it could have been a saugeye or sauger)But not many if any left. I found one dead several years ago and have heard tales from semi credible sources. But as phish stated I have also have dreaded the lake with multiple presentations and have yet to lay eyes on one. I however have caught many below the dam.

In the past it has been stocked with Sauger.  The last stocking was 2006, I believe.
