I know, my buddy called me and said boats were backed up at Walnut because they couldn't get out with the 6 footers pounding down. Same thing happened to me last year at Walnut, NOAA calling for no winds and a calm lake. When we got there, boats were being beaten back in and a charter wouldn't even go out until things calmed down. The lady that works inside said she just got off the phone to Cleveland and they weren't reporting this kind of weather at all. That's where I thought this buoy was supposed to take care of this problem by providing real time info. I read on-line today an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette dated 5/18 stating just this fact so that people from out of town could access this info and decide whether they were going to drive up or not. Seems not to be the case. Also talked to a few other boaters out there and I guess there's been alot of complaints to the placement of this thing. Everyone says it should be off the point and out deeper. Makes sense because you don't get an accurate view of the lake from that side of town until you come around that point. Where it is now, it seems to be in close proximity to 4 other towers and buoys. This may need a public discussion, say at a S.O.N.S. meeting.
