MORE QUESTIONS ON NEW BUOY

Ok, really liking this thing and the data it's putting out there.  Showing me those almost 5 footers this morning even tho the forecasts were calling for a calmer lake, prevented me from driving the 30 miles just to have to turn around and come home.  Just wish they'd get that camera fixed.  Anyway, a few clarifications on the terms from people in the know.  What is the difference in MAX WAVE HEIGHT(in feet) and SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT (in feet), and what is DOMINANT WAVE PERIOD (in seconds)?

Well, maybe not liking it so much now.  Just accessed buoy data to see if lake was calming from early this morning and see the last data update was today at 0520.  It's 11:20 that I'm posting this.  No updated info in 6 hours?!?!  Had big hopes for the convenience, reliability, and real time lake info of this thing, but it's looking like just another SNAFU.  Combine that with the fact the camera has only workied about .0001% of the time this thing has been activated.

I know, my buddy called me and said boats were backed up at Walnut because they couldn't get out with the 6 footers pounding down.  Same thing happened to me last year at Walnut, NOAA calling for no winds and a calm lake.  When we got there, boats were being beaten back in and a charter wouldn't even go out until things calmed down.  The lady that works inside said she just got off the phone to Cleveland and they weren't  reporting this kind of weather at all.  That's where I thought this buoy was supposed to take care of this problem by providing real time info.  I read on-line today an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette dated 5/18 stating just this fact so that people from out of town could access this info and decide whether they were going to drive up or not.  Seems not to be the case.  Also talked to a few other boaters out there and I guess there's been alot of complaints to the placement of this thing.  Everyone says it should be off the point and out deeper.  Makes sense because you don't get an accurate view of the lake from that side of town until you come around that point.  Where it is now, it seems to be in close proximity to 4 other towers and buoys.  This may need a public discussion, say at a S.O.N.S. meeting.

Thats definitely interesting. They are in the bay now my boat is having carb problems. The floats stuck on the lowest carb and gas is going everywhere. Still catching bass though
