Where to fish this weekend, rain sux...

All this rain has been making me sick to my stomach! The 3 rivers and the Yough look like something out of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. I'm thinking maybe my best bet is to try a nearby lake since they don't get nearly as muddy as steady flowing rivers/ streams?

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

Stay away from Arthur---this is going to be a festival weekend and it will be an even worse zoo than normal.

I was at Crooked Creek Outflow on Wednesday.  It was already a little high and muddy. Probably a lot worse now. Did manage to catch a few smallmouth. Short ones though.

I plan to be on the water by 4am and off no later than 10am.  Won't be a zoo that early.  I'll wave to you guys at the launch.  Plus, those activities are all back the beach road... could always hit the 528 side of the lake if you don't mind loudspeaker_Jesus.

Crooked Creek Discharge is at mid to high 600cfs, was there yesterday with my gf and a buddy of mine we managed 2 sub legal walleye, a small mouth and lost a big sheephead, stopped at Lock 6 and managed a few small walleye and small mouths then hit Lock 5 and did pretty well with catfish (channels and flatheads) and a 23" sheephead.  The allegheny wasn't too bad they are upping Kinzua's discharge so the river will be close to 11.5 or 12' at Lock 6 and close to 12' at Lock 5.  Crooked Creek is staying the same till tomorrow they forecasted 800cfs and then to drop it to 360 cfs on Sunday.  I'm tired of this rain I want to fish at Shenango but they have half the gates open at the dam making fishing almost a chore...

Welp, Cross Creek sucked, even got there at 6am. Water was fairly clear but nothin but a dinky bluegill, and carp goin nuts in the weeds. Didn't have the motivation to go check out Crooked, it's a bit farther and I've never been before.

Fished Lake arthur from 9am to about 4:30pm on Friday the 13th.  Front arrived at around 1:00pm.  Took shelter and watched it rain for an hour or so.  I was on babysitting duty with a 6 year old!  Caught some bluegill in the lilly pads.  Funday!  Trolled some plugs and worm harnesses however my son wasn't into that, maybe next time.

Drove by Crooked Creek today.  The lake - water is covering one third of the beach parking area - outflow was running high, handicap dock covered with a foot or so of water.

Slabfinder, As of this morn. the lake is approx.15' above normal & rising, the boat launch is closed as is the road to the beach. The manager told me it was doubtful if either would be open this week-end.  sam
