Tent worms or bag worms

Just a little thought here. Has anyone ever tried tent worms or bag worms as bait. They are crawling all over the place and would be some cheap bait. I figured since they are natural and dropping out of trees that they should work good. Are they worth trying?

Not sure. I've wondered the same thing. Tent caterpillars seem to be abundant this year. I do know Catalpa Sphinx Moth caterpillars are excellent panfish bait.

I know one thing they won't eat stink bugs. My buddy had a nice size bass in his fish tank wanted nothing to do with they. Usually was a hungry suckered too

I snagged my spinner in a tree at the loyalhanna DHALO and when i got it out i had accidentally hooked a bagworm on it (figured even tho its a no bait zone that this worm volunteered :) ) i threw it for around 20 minutes until it came off and didnt catch anything

Then again this was in february and i didnt catch any fish that day

I have thrown them into the creek in front of my house and the larger creek chubs make short work of them - and they don't spit them out.

I would say that floating one on top of some trout  could do well - although at this time of year trout start to become pretty few and far between - and probably do well for bluegill although at this time of year the larger ones are deeper so maybe weight them down.

Trout do take green inchworms dragging on the water hanging from threads.  They also take Gypsy moth caterpillars during heavy infestations. Throw a handful in and see if there are any takers on the surface.

Well, haven't got out since I posted this. Been too busy. I haven't seen any of those caterpillars any more so I assume they have moved on to become moths or whatever they become. Still not sure when I will get out. Would like to hit the Mon some night for cats.
