Lake Arthur report Sunday 5/18
Decided to try the other side of the lake today. Got to the 528 launch... OMFGBBQ 7,000,000 cars/trucks/trailers. Seriously I've never seen that many people in my life. I thought it was the fourth of July or something. Turns out no, just a BASS TOURNAMENT. SIGH. What happened to not having tournaments when bass are nesting? Well anyway I hope they killed every bass in the lake. I respectfully released the two I caught even after they ate my best minnows and chased off better fish. Summary: - rt528 bridge is a bumpy POS that should be blown up and replaced - rt528 launch is a fricking cliff with shallow****launches - rt528 has **** bass tourneys - if you park under the bridge birds will poop on you and your boat - OMG loudspeaker Jesus! "THE CHILDRENS ARE A GIFT FROM GOD!" Yeah, that happened. For hours. Back to my side next trip. I'm sure the 528 faithful won't miss me. Oh yeah, caught a few fish. Other than all the bad stuff, and it being on the verge of actually cold, any day on the lake is a good day.

That stinks it was that packed. Well it seems you had an enjoyable day on the water apart from all of the chaos. I now know not to try that launch on my next outing lol. You're darn right about the cold. My fiance and I went tent camping up presque this weekend and it was cold as a mother trucker. My fiance is 27 weeks pregnant btw. She is a trooper and I dressed her warm . Couldnt fish the bay it was too choppy for her. Fished marina bay and had decent success catching 7 largemouths and 8 smallmouth in 2 hours on the water. Caught a few monster channels and carp at the pond at the campground later that night. I want to go up again soon and fish it hard in the bay by myself. I want to chase perch, pike, and bass. Well ok.....anything I can get to bite lol.
Do you fish Arthur every weekend? Im looking to get the boat wet up there again soon as well

Been on a good tear but not quite every weekend. The old lady won't put up with that sort of regularity. Going to try out Pymie this weekend I think.

Everything you said about the 528 launch is factual. The level of bird excrement can be mind boggling. The key to that is either parking your vehicle completely under the road or making sure you are not under one of those mud nests they build. And yes the church music is a little weird. That said is is still a beatiful area on a beautiful lake. With four launch lanes you can get in and out pretty easily. It does get a little crazy, but it is overall a nice facility.

Yeah I hear ya. My old lady isn't a fan of that either. She is fair though I must say. I just tell her atleast im just fishing on a lake by myself. Rather than be out at the bars all the time like her friends husbands

Also worth mentioning, the lake is high as hell with all this rain. Think Noah + ark high. Arthur isn't like Shenango... a foot in change is a big deal.

Those bass tourney's are a pain in the rear, especially at the start and closing. The amount of wake they create, feels like a pleasure boat lake. That said, I'd much rather deal with the occasional tourneys than PWCs or general joy riding unrestricted lakes any day. Planning to brave the crowds this weekend. Not optimal, but itching to finally get the boat in the water after months of working on it. Hopefully not working out kinks the whole time and actually get some fishing in. It takes Arthur a while to clear up after high water/mud.

It should be noted that the bass guys were very polite around the launches. And they all actually know how to work a trailer. That's a big improvement over the ramp shenanigans I normally put up with. I hear you on the PWCs. Best thing about Arthur. Last year first trip we launched back in Bear Run. Mid morning some joker puts in a big PWC and roars across the lake. We were all like... WTF? When he got back to the launch the rangers scooped him up. Was worth it just to see them write him up.

I agree, most of the bass guys are very polite and most are just as skilled with a trailer as with fishing gear. Even on the lake, most respect the common courtesy boundries, much better than many other recreational anglers. You can tell that most have spent many years recreational fishing, prior to turning to competative fishing. Although, competition will turn honest folks into idiots if desperate. I haven't witnessed any, but I'm sure it happens.

You're right - it sure was crazy. I think it was a crappie tournament - so the bass were saved for another tournament day

I fished yesterday. Water was high and murky. Only one crappie. On a 5" creek chub of all things. Let him go and kept a few smaller channels for the frier. Channels were hitting gulp alive trout worms while we were looking for some gills.
