Came up short AGAIN!!!
Literally. I have maybe tried to fish the float rod 10 times tops, today I tried and came up short, I got 3 small rainbows that were 4 to 5 inches. They were jumping everywhere. I would get them when I was reeling in close to shore. There were a few fish around and where I was at was fished easily at 1800, but I still got alot to learn about shotting and trotting. Could not get the bead ahead or under the float. Usually float pulled the bead. Well it was fun trying .

At least you got out!
As for weight, for me at least, the more water the less need for a shot line.
Bulk up a foot or so from the bait to drop it fast.
Maybe one right below the boober to get it to set instantly while the bait is falling..

Learning curve here. Pretty sure I had the weight too high. I am slowly learning some places to go when the water is higher. This will help my game I think

Same here Clint. Just got back to NJ last night. Had a little action on Pink worm. The Sandies were blown out yesterday from the rain. There were quite a few cars at Monatour Falls Wed afternoon. I did go down on the weight. Still a very relaxing trip even though a little raw fishing in the rin on Wed

 Got a few more of the small ones today. This one was about 6 or 7 inches  Went up again today. I saw 2 jumping around, but nothing but these small ones again

Look like young atlantics--when they stock them here in Ct they eat anything and everything in the water.

They often run up from anytime between mid April and early may... I heard they are chasing bait and normally don't go any higher than tall bridge before descending back to the lake... I've yet to get one myself but I'd suppose with the extended elevated flows they are venturing further up

Back in the mid to late 90's I was in the area for two days of lake charters (early June) and decided to wet a line in Pineville. I caught one Atlantic after another all in the 5 -7" range. Very aggressive takes I might add and it mattered little what you threw their way.

You know I thought that, but really did not know. It's funny because after I posted last night I was looking on line at pics of Atlantics because something did not sit right with me. That's why I posted the Pics and went to the same spot today to try and get another one and post it. Really have not caught many smaller rainbows to compare. The inside of the mouth was all white and the tails are forked. What threw me off was the pinkish hue on top like a rainbow. These were WAY up near Altmar and they were jumping all around in a few particular spots. Guess I can say I caught an atlantic now

Drop back fishermen will have their hands full with them-hope it doesn't affect their numbers through mishandling.
On the flipside perhaps it isn't the high waters, just an increase in their numbers- HOPE HOPE-if they only would come in like this as adults.

I agree with dime...atlantic smolts. I thought they were stocked and are working there way down to the big water? I had a similar fishing experience last year around this same time. Jumping all over the place and very aggressive.

Might well agree with the stocked theory. In Ct this is the time of year they get put into the tribs.

I wondered about recent stocking too, would be a long way to make it up in a heavy flow. Most were palm size, but a few were 6 plus inches.

Hey Yukbug is that a white Boxer in your avater? I have a white Boxer and she loves to roll like that,I get a kick watching her enjoy it!
Those look like Atlantics to me Clint and were probably stocked recently.One way to determine that would be to contact Vern at the hatchery.

They don't have the lists up for last year, but in 2012, NYSDEC put 30,000 6.5 inch landlocks and 13,800 2.5 inch landlocks in Beaverdam Brook. These would be coming from the Adirondack Hatchery in Saranac Lake, unless USGS is raising the SR fish at Tunison. They may have put them in lately because the water was high, and they thought they would head right downstream. Be gentle with them, they are the potential future of summer fishing on the SR.

Clint thanks for the reports, pics and glad to see some stream side fishing.
I now feel like db as I listen to the croz. Long time gone.
Do miss the late winter /spring steel. It seems through your / 2 bob reports and my only trip that the fishery is healthy.
I can't wait to try the lake.
So far your coming up aces and I'm spades.

The little ones are landlocks that were stocked (~17,000 ~7" fish) by the USGS Biological Research Division Tunison lab in Cortland. AGin, please be gentle with them.
