Too early for lake trout ?

Is it too early to find the lake trout in shallow water off the east side? Tomorrow is May 1st. Is anyone fishing for them yet?

Looks like the surface temps are around 32-33 F. From what I've read it will be a couple 2 or 3 weeks.

I've heard mixed reports of some being caught others haven't gotten them in the usual places they do this time of year yet.

Everything seems to be a week or 2 behind.

10.5 degree difference in 24 hrs.?  Either the first post was supposed to say 39 or you need a new thermometer.

    Was not a misprint.
My thermometer is just fine. 8 miles is a big difference.

Dang Ken,  I must have been doing something wrong.  We got 5 Sunday in 62-65' bouncing the downriggers off the bottom and 4 dipseys out.  That must be why you get paid to fish.  lol.

    dakotab,
Sunday seemed to be a slower day.  We were moving rods all day on saturday.  Marked a ton of huge bait balls too.  Then on sunday it was just slllloooooowwwww......the bait wasn't there anymore either.  I marked down temps around 50 degrees on some areas of the mountain this weekend....

Fished Sun. off North East. trolled spoons off lead core/w disks and downrigger.
Trolled 1.5 to 2.5, didn't mark much and only caught one. I was right off NE and i just don't think they were there or we would have marked them.

    Hardly any boats out.

Anywhere from 5' - 50', depending on mood.  Change it up if one length isn't working.
