Ammo costs

Have been out of the ammo buying loop for a while.
Talk about sticker shock..

I think this issue is probably the greatest threat to recruiting new hunters into our sport.
Shooting 22's has been the corner stone for getting kids at the range.
We burnt up more 22 shells when I was a kid...

At $10 a box for 22 shells you're not getting much range time to keep them interested...

You look around you can find them  cheaper than that. You have to be there close to when they put them out though. Obama sold several million guns in a short time. The ammo makers haven't caught up yet and everyone is hording them. Vote a Repub in in 2016 or enough Repub in to take control of the Senate in 2014 and things will return to normal. I have bought 22 at Gander Mt for $5 for 50 which isn't exactly cheap.

Get a .22 air rifle. The new gas piston ones are pretty comparable power wise. They just need a little fine tuning cause most air rifles are made in china now and are pretty worthless out of the box. You have to do a complete tear down and cleaning before you shoot them. They come way over greased and you'll diesel them if you shoot them that way.
For any other caliber, I would start reloading. I was looking into getting the class 2 FFL for my father so he could sell his reloads. He could have made a fortune this year. Some rifle calibers I saw were insanely expensive. I swear I saw a box of 20  .300 win mags for $80 at gander.  He could have sold 30-30 rounds the night before deer season for $5-$10 each I bet, if my father were the type of guy to do that. He actually donate 3 or four bricks of .22 rounds to Gem city so they could finish the youth rifle league.

we have only 6 boxes of 22 LRs left from ones we bought retail ..  in ERIE ...  just to have some !!!!  ... our 22s are $16.00 A BOX  and sell as fast as we get them .....

I should find out how they make those and replicate the process. I'm sure I've tackled harder projects than that and less fun. I bet the class 2 FFL covers manufacturing from scratch. I sure would like to retire a little early.

Dakota Kid, they were probably .300 Weatherby Mag rounds you seen for $80. I used to buy them when they were 2 bucks a round. My dads been reloading them for me for less than $.80 a round, I think.

That makes more sense. My Dad's been reloading for years and never really made any kind of profit. He just really enjoys it. He has concerns that he may have to work part time after he retires. I think if we get him the FFL 2, he won't need to worry and can make ends meet doing what he wants to do. He can still offer cheaper options than retail stores and make enough to not have to work.

I reload for every firearm I own. I've had .30 caliber bullets on backorder from Natchez since March 10. You can't smoke 'em if you ain,t got 'em.

He's got um. My dad's idea of a sound investment is more guns or more ammo.

Did you try midway? I don't know what you shoot but they had my hunting bullets in stock this morning.
