The web cam is linked to the pair along the Mon River. There is another pair with young old enough to fly right by Oakmont also. We see one of them almost everyday on the job site there. I've seen one as far down as Highland Park, but that's assuming that was one of the Oakmont birds.

There is an Osprey nesting down near McKees Rocks on the island. I have a relative that works near there.

I'm not sure the type of raptor that used to live right next to my house in the South Side a few years ago. During the blizzard of 2010, the church parking lot behind my house had 3-4 areas of pigeon blood stains. I watched him pick one off in mid air, which was one of the most awesome things that I have ever seen. He'd hide in/on the church bell tower, and wait for the pigeons to come into his strike zone. From the time that the Japanese steakhouse opened up, and kicked out the pigeon on a stick truck, the amount of pigeons was getting out of hand. I'm guessing these bald eagles are benifiting from it as well. I have to admit, those pigeon kabobs were pretty good.

I see mama bird got to defend her nest against a raccoon... hope it doesn't keep coming back now that it knows she is nested there, but wouldn't surprise me if it becomes a problem for the pair.

I would bet that the PGC will trap him out of there soon. Although that is natures way,I don't think that they want that on t.v. as it happens. sam

They probably will either put a barrier on the tree or trap them out... I agree that they won't want it on the cam since it is PR for them.

I don't think the GC will get involved any way to protect the nest. They interviewed a game commission officer on the news about that incident and he didn't seem to be to concerned about that raccoon. In fact he said that is quite possible that the 'coon could become the eagle's dinner if it continues to invade the nest.

Pork - that was probably a peregrine falcon. there's a number of residents in downtown. they certainly do their best to control the pigeon population. I'm pretty sure bald eagles are mostly fish eaters.

Bird dog, you are probably right. I remember a couple years ago there was a web cam that you could watch the Peregrine falcon that was nested on the Pitt cathedral. Awesome birds and a great natural way to eliminate some of the pigeons.

I was on a hike a couple weeks ago and we came up on I GIANT nest and seen 3 eagles that we spooked . This nest is up Moraine state park. If walk back to the trail at the 422 launch, Which will take up back to the old boys scout beech then keep following the trail heading to the 528 bridge it's about half way to the bridge. I think you could see the nest from the marina restaurant, well before the leaves start anyway.
