best flasher for approx $400?

I'm in the hunt for my first flasher very soon. And as the title says im not lookin to spend more than $400ish. My buddy has an vexilar fl-8 and I like it but I want somethin with a lil more to it. Maybe something with a bottom zoom? Just curious of what other guys have and what they like. Currently I'm lean in towards a vexilar or a hummingbird. Opinions please and thank you!

Your best bet is to talk to guys that have many different types , ask a lot of questions , see the goods , the bad , and the ugliest .
I have a Marcum Showdown , I will not hit the ice without it . Top is top , bottom is bottom , there is you jig , there is the fish . No spinning wheel , red lines , green lines . That is what I like , also only have  $200.00 in it off a guy here . Look at a bunch , Buy what suits you and your water .

I have a humming bird ice 35 , 300 bucks new had it for 4 years works real well with other flashers in the same hut and it has a big screen , three colors which makes it easier to read the fish to your jig , just a good choice for the money in my opinion .

Bought a fl-18  off a board member 2 years ago for around $200.  I've never used anything else, but I can say its definitly made a huge change in my icefishing ability. No longer sitting there wondering if I'm over fish or not.

Thanks for the info fellas! At the moment im leaning towards the ice 45 and ice 55. Ive found then within $50 or so of one another and i like the features of them a lil more for the same money compared to the vexilars. Still deciding tho as I dont have the money gathered up for any of them yet. Any more info is greatly appreciated still!

It is the vertical readout . I tested out 3 different flashers before I spent my hard earned money . I talked to allot of guys on the ice , I.E. the guys with the fish in the bucket , not a few on the ice . I have had a bunch of guys lean over my shoulder and watch and ask questions . You should do the same before you spend the money . Good luck .

I lucked out! I've been looking at the Marcum Showdown 5.6 for a couple years now and I was fortunate to find one locally AND on sale! Picked it up at Eire Sports Store for 299.99. What a difference, like many guys say, "how did I ever fish without a sonar". My 2nd choice would have been a Marcum VX-1 Pro.

The FL-18 is  a good flasher. I also like the Humminbird Ice 45 and the MarCum LX-5i in the same price range. Humminbirds last forever. MarCum have super target separation.
