Retro FIshing Rock
Seeing I just hit my BIG 60 yesterday and many of this Boards members are Classic Rockers, just want to know if any of you also lived this? I think I was 15 at the time. Niagara Falls was dried up ****Nixon was in in or almost in? I got chased off the river by the NY Parlk police for filling my pockets with coins tourists tossed in the River by tourists for good luck a bove the falls thru the years. Got served my first beer 45 years ago at a local bar courtecy of a fake draft card. Beer of choice was Iroquois thanks to the local Buffalo tribe! Woodstock had already occurred and my mother would not let me go so my sister was kind enoigh to let me use her 67 Mustang for travel to Watkins Glen to see the BAND - DEAD and ALLMAN Bros! a couple years later. Nothing better than listening to a couple 8Tracks on your 60th! Woodstock Soundtrack and CSN&Y 4 Way Street. Only problem is you gotta do it on Itunes as the 8Tracks are history. Any of you guys go to either concert?

Had to work for both concerts, had lots of friends that went to one or the other, but I needed the bucks for college tuition. Did get up to Toronto for the Festival Express show there, so saw the Band and the Dead on the same bill, and caught the Bros opening for the Dead at the Fillmore East in the first Allman Bros appearance there. I too was a poor college student working my way through undergraduate school. I was on the seven year plan because I would quit school to work. I had friends that went to Woodstock but I wasn't into the hippie scene as I was still pretty much a high school jock. Went to a number of shows at the Fillmore East, MSG, etc. but my favorite was the Schaeffer Music Festival at the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park. Carnegie Hall was another venue that I saw some great acts.

Well Im only 42 but did manage a few dead shows but also had to work my **** off from a very young age so touring was never a option for me. I wish I could have seen a young Jerry G, or Allmans or Hot Tuna, Led Zepplin but thanks to modern technology some of these great acts are releasing shows on dvd. Wife got me Sunshine Daydream, the springfield creamery benefit 8/27/72 and Move me Brightly celebrating Jerrys 70th, this disk gave me goosebumps made me cry, laugh and dance in my living room as much as I hate technology I love the new music they continue to remaster. Sorry its off subject but go buy Move Me Brightly if your a Jerry fan. Peace

Good responses! Glad I wasn't the only one with a fake Draft card. Think I was in the same boat of being too young to be a Hippie! I think first concert at the Aud in Buffalo was a local band Raven that opened for Joe Walsh and the "James Gang". Missed Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. I did see the Original James Gang is gonna tour this summer! You know they will play Funk49!

Hippies were a media creation. Freeks (double es) were real! I didn't even want my real draft card.

Thank You and Happy New Year to You too Jack! Hope you are cooking up some Polish Soul Food for the New Year! Cannot agree with you more about being Happy to Be Here! Lost a good friend of mine this year that put me onto Pulaski - North and South Sandy, Taco Bob's the Wigwam and the Country Pizza Inn. Probobly would not be fishing and on this board if it were not for Him. Like the guy in the Dos Equis commercial says, "Stay Thirsty My friend!

Rich there is some kind of strange connection between fishers and lovers of music. Two of my favorite Stills discs are Live at shepherd bush, and Carry On his box set. I love acoustic!

all good stuff guys , wish I had more time to write down some trips through memory lane. I'm 48 and I did go to Woodstock , stood on stage as mater fact. Next to some legends and shook their hands. Bob weir, jorma & Jack, Rick Danko, Levon helm & Hugh Romney . Alas it was not the 1969 festival at yasgurs farm ( although I went to some reunion shows there) but it was Woodstock II 1994. Invited by Up by Jorma's long time manager Harvey Coleman RIP
3: Black crowes play a wicked pre road downs ( think its on a cd I gave you ) but Stephen Stills is the man !!

I'm a youngan compared to anyone on this thread I'm sure but at age 33 I did see the dead twice with gerry still around as a teen eager at giant stadium... first with traffic as an opener and second with Dylan... gotta say Dylan sounded horrible back in 95... gerry died a month after I saw them.

Dime, don't feel bad you had Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes! Agree with you on Dylan, a Musical genious, but later in life he sounded like he would have been booed out of Buster's in Pulaski on a friday night!

Johnny and the jukes were maybe just a little too far south from me!!! Lol :) Yeah, I remember my mother cracking up over Dylan singing as a guest appearance on the music awards back in maybe 1990 or so... definitely a great musician and artist/song writer... I really enjoy his work with the band.

Probably 43 years to this day that I was at the Fillmore East for Leslie West and Mountain. The opening acts were a gospel rocker/zydeco type named Mylon LeFevre and a young lady named Tracy Nelson. Today my greatest pleasure is going to see a concert with my daughters who were raised on the music of my generation. I make a point of seeing the old rockers whenever I can because they will be gone soon enough. Probably headed to the Paramount Theater tomorrow night to see the New Riders of the Purple Sage. As for the draft & draft card, I still have mine. Possibly the only thing I ever won was the draft lottery, my birth date was 27. Because I was out of college (working) I was called for my physical and classified as 1A. I was prepared to enlist in the Air Force if my notice came but it never did.
