report dec15
Took my son and his college roommate up to SR saturday after moving him out of his college dorm for winter break. Lots of snow around and ever night it snowed between 3 and 10 inches of fresh snow. The river was real quiet as the temps were real cold , 4 degrees in the am. I actually took them to the upper river as there was really no one around. I have very rarely ever fished that far up because of crowds but this seemed like the right opportunity to try it . One of my fishing buddies was already in town and he had a decent day up top the day before . So off we went. We found my buddy already in a nice spot where the 4 of us could fish together , we had steady action all day with plenty of fish to play with and plenty landed. My sons roommate got to land his first steelhead and was just amazed on how hard a fish can pull. We primarily caught all the fish on egg patterns with a couple on nymph patterns. But to be honest I really do not think it mattered. Not sure if it is like that a lot up river ,but if it is I can see why it draws the crowds. But to me I would take working for them mid river and have the peace and quiet vs tons of action and the crowds . But for a quick one day turn around trip, this was a good as it gets. The boys were frozen. But still had a blast. Great little mini trip so glad to have my boy with me and even though we spent more time in the car driving than on the river it was great having the time with him. They grow up so fast. Took some good Pictures, but do not know how to post them here .
