Baitfeeders & Baitclickers

While shopping online for a new reel for carp fishing, I started coming across these baitfeeder reels. Can someone please explain to me the difference between a baitfeeder and a baitclicker? I've always used spinning reels with the drag on so that the carp can run with it before I get to the pole.

The bait feeders have a secondary drag that you set real loose so the fish can run with the bait. When you want to set the hook, flip a lever or just start reeling and the main drag engages for full fish fighting power. I highly recommend bait runner type reels for cat and carp fishing.

I'm not really sure what you mean by bait clicker, like on a round bait caster?

From what you described the baitfeeders as, that's what I was calling a "baitclicker." It's the same thing, I was just using the wrong terminology. Definately want one of these.

I believe terms like "bait feeder" "bait runner" and "live liner" are just different brands terms for the same thing. Whatever you call them, they're a must for fishing big fish on the bottom.

I'm looking into getting an Okuma Avenger with the baitfeeder. Not sure what size yet.

IMO the 65 is too large for this area.  The bail is prone to being bent/knocked out of its mooring due to its size.  It is somewhat difficult to find a good cover for this size.  The 50's seem to be a good size for the rivers, KSP, Twin.

Here's a 65 and 50 next to each other.

Shimano Baitrunners take a beating and keep on feeding..........I use the 4500's. Had no problem dealing with fish up to 32 lbs.

I believe the name "bait runner" is owned by Shimano. Jug, I just bought my brother a Avenger 50 for Christmas. Looking forward to using them this year. Talk to a few guys at the local bait shops around the Mon and they say they love them.

I've owned 2 avengers for several years. The bait runner on one quit clicking but still works. This started a few weeks after I submerged it in high water where I was fishing ( abuse)

The clicker is located on the underside of the spool where the shaft goes through.  There is a small spring that holds the clicker against the shaft to produce the sound.  For some reason this spring pops off.  It is easy to replace, or if your reel came with two spools you could take the spring from the unused spool.
