Cold Weather Mono Line for steelhead

I normally fish with braid when I use spinning gear for steel head, but this morning I had to switch to a back up spool filled with mono due to ice on the line.  That spool was filled with Hi-Vis Solar xt line and it was very prone to tangles and loops till the weather warmed up some.  I tried letting out about 40 yards of line and stretching it out but that did nothing. Does anyone use a hi-vis mono when it is below freezing temps and would you recommend it and if so what brand/type.   Fishing was fine both Monday and Tuesday but catching was better Monday before the water came up a little.

6lb p-line fluoro is usually money for me. 4 is even better but u gotta let the drag do a lot of work in turn causing the fight to exhaust the fish more shortening it's chances if survival upon release. So I go with 6. I was having major freeze problems Friday and bought some ice away paste from PR and it solved all my problems. What I found was that it was basically Vaseline which can be purchased much cheaper in a larger ammounts then the $6 charm locket I bought. The stuff really worked though. No issues with freezing. I'm no expert by any means and could be wrong but I'm not farmiliar with too many people that use braids for steel.

A bad day fishing is better than a good of anything.

I don't always exercise my shoulders...but when I do I fish for steelhead....

4 or 6 lb Maxima ultragreen. Really don't see the need for a hi-vis. mono.

I've been using trilene 6lb mono with a seaguar flouro tippet for years, never had a problem.

I use 6 lb ultra green as well with a 3-4 or 5 X Fly Tippet.  No complaints
