Is it too heavy?

Hello All
When I see a new and interesting pattern, I usually go all in and get the necessary materials without looking past the tying stage. Except this time. The pattern, The Game Changer by Blane Chocklett.  From the fish spine and the size of this fly, I get the impression this is a heavy fly. I intend to scale it down a bit by losing the largest section of the fish spine. I'm aiming for a 3 or 4 inch fly to use on local trout streams. I'm not sure if my 9 foot St. Croix Rio Santo in 6 weight, with matching weight forward floating line can handle the weight of the fly! I also use a White River, Dogwood Canyon 7"6', 5 weight, with matching weight forward floating line. Will these outfits handle this heavy of a fly? Any opinions, suggestions or recommendations? Do I need to go out and get one of those expensive Kelly Gallup streamer rods? Hope not. Again, Thanks in advance for your help. Have a safe holiday season.

That's an impressive looking fly for sure. If the materials you're using don't hold a lot of water I would think you'd be fine. You could also tie is with 3 segments instead of 4 if you're worried.

    Thanks tip, thanks Fish.
I'm planning on making at least two sizes by dropping one or two of the segments. Just wasn't sure about the fishability with my 6 weight. I made some streamers a while back that were way too heavy for the 6 weight. I use them with my spinning outfit occasionally. As soon as I get the rest of the ingredients its off to the vise. Thanks again for the help.
