BBD @ 5:30 this evening
At 5:30 tonight the buck I have been targeting came into my calls and took an arrow to the boiler. 201 dressed, 20" inside... not a bad 8 pt. for PA.

That is a good un. Congrats. You said you called him in. Grunts, bleats or rattling? I have not had any respond yet. Looking but just keep going.

Thanks Guys, I am pretty happy with him. I don't run cameras or food plots (a little bit old school I guess). I do spend A-LOT of time glassing and actually studying the deer I am hunting. This buck showed up once all summer (I have a photo from my 35mm). I didn't see him again after 9-1. Yesterday was a day of hunches - I took a half day from work, went into a spot I had been saving and promptly left due to NO sign whatsoever, then proceeded to walk into the wind skirting a swamp. About 300 yards in, I saw a lone fresh rub (the only fresh sign I actually saw) and I decided to stop and really survey for a few minutes. Although the sign was minimal, it appeared that rub was on an exit route coming from the swamp, intersecting with a deer path I had been following. I figured that at least I could throw my climber up and get some decent observation and evaluation of what has been happening on my hill. At 5:20 I saw a doe skitter through the swamp below me and a few seconds later a small buck appeared. She wanted nothing to do with him and I knew he wasn't the king of the hill. I pulled out the grunt and really hit it hard and aggressive, just hoping that if a big buck was in the area and that the doe was his, I might pull him away for a fight. On cue, the little guy turned and snuck away as if he knew that he was in trouble. I grabbed my bow because that little buck's reaction meant that there was definitely a hammer in there that he was afraid of. Less than 1 minute later, I heard a limb snap out in front of me on the trail I had been following. At 50 yards, I knew who he was... the only difference was that this time his ears were layed back, eyes glossed, and the snot coming out of his nose. He came quick, grunting the entire way. At 30 yards I drew, at 15 paces I threw a mouth grunt at him, and at 10 paces he stopped broadside. 50 yards and one Hell Razor later, his reign came to an end.

That is some pretty early rutting behavior there. Especially from a mature deer. I guess one never knows. Congrats again.
