batten down the hatches

Here she comes boys... too much necessary work to do before it closes in. Snow already in the forecast... have fun with early chrome... maybe a brief outting or two but not likely for me. Hopefully its a brutal winter to calm the banks a little... tight lines

I saw that...  The extended forecast has it next Friday (possibly), there must be a front coming because after Wednesday (the day we arrive) them temps drop.  Anyone think the cold front would shut the fish down at all or are the water temps still on the warm side?  I thought I read that a lot of the Steel have been reluctant to enter due to temps (second hand info by the way). If I remember it was something like 50-60 degree where they are full of **** and vinegar any lower they start to slow down a bit, any higher they may hang up which I find interesting because I would think they would come regardless due to food surplus i.e. eggs.

By the way are the salmon starting to zombie up or should I say are the majority starting to look rough....  Was hoping there may still be some life to them next week to play a few?  It seemed the major run happened around October 7th and some suggest 2-4 weeks in the river before they start getting funky so that logic could indicate..... maybe.....

I go back up at the end of November.... seems like I could be dealing with some serious snow....  But who knows...  Looks like I won't be wearing a t-shirt like last late October.

Although the colder weather is coming lets not get too excited for the snow.  Although I like to ice fish I certainly can do without the snow.

X-2. Snow only means work. Ice is nice. If you don't like the cold then throw another log on the fire or fire up the buddy in the shanty :)

Machine, the cold front coming will do nothing but good for you. It will put spunk in anything that's swimming the river... you should do fine. I would seek trout more so than salmon but a feisty strike from a coho or male king could still be in the cards for you. Good luck...

As for water temps, I'd say 40-55 are prime steel temps. I prefer the colder end myself

Thanks dime, we are going mostly for chrome but a mudshark here or there is a pleasant surprise/bonus.  Plus my one buddy don't ask me why, likes to take a few home and smoke them.  I definitely pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I wasn't sure if fronts shut fishing down like other species.  When I'm smally fishing in the spring on the susky.  A cold front can get them lock jawed.
    Thanks again.

Where's the snow in the forecast? The ten day shows a little rain and temps cooling a bit,not even below freezing.
It should be about perfect for my 5 day at the end of Oct.

Jack, as usual it changes all the time.. looks like they bumped both lows and highs back up a notch for next week... still gonna have below freezing temps at night for Tuesday in to next weekend from what I'm seeing.. let's see what the end of next week turns in to... regardless, its still too much of a weather change to skip my chores... have fun guys

Machine, frontal systems can throw trout fishing off with the snap of a finger at times... not so much this time of year though...

Still in the moving mode- now getting the 'old' house ready for the market. Lousy time of year for it.
Was hoping to get up at least one more time for Kings and Hos -perhaps some fresh Steel too.
YES I want it ALL.  Not enough trips this season.
Heck didn't even get firearm Deer tags here in Ct yet-skipping both Fall turkey and Bow season for Deer.
Leaves and mowing must be at least a days worth of time too - ungggghhhhh
Cold weather makes me think bout anti freeze in the lines pretty quick as well..
Having a place up there is definitely nice but the responsibilities can get in the way of things now and again.
The move was worth it though- Deer in the backyard every evening and turkey mid day..nice.
