Saturday

Well got to share, took my 82 year old uncle and his son and girlfriend on a float today, did not leave the launch till 9am and Im the only one with waders on. Floating down Im explaining with the late start and peak season we will be lucky to find places to fish as I spy the whole left side of the schoolhouse void of fisherman and boats. We tuck in at the head of the hole, I get two fishing at a time and one on deck, jump out with my fly swatter and move a little above them. Swung my favorite pink/white fleshfly with no takers in 15 minutes. Went to the boat and tied on Db's estaz he showed me and the game was on, hooked up on the second swing and handed the rod to the son with a landed older hen fly on her tongue. Back up where I was and 10 minutes later back down with another slammer, give the rod to the young lady and she battles it for 10 minutes before the pop off. I had 7 great takes across from 10 guys that had ten on but****hooked. Well we spent three or so hours there and I said lets move down and see what we can do. Pulled plugs thru the wire hole with a good hit but no stick. Well from fraisers run to the end of the root it was ****s to elbows but as we round the bend to the top of the fridgerator the top of the hole was free. I said probably be our last stop and I like this spot so lets give her hell. Everyone wants to get out and fish from shore so I rig them up and spread them out, grab the swatter and proceed to get three more great takes one smashed it and took me into my backing so fast by the time I started running after it there was 100yards gone and then he broke me. I decided to put my 82 year old uncle and the young lady back in the boat and anchor them out a ways to get a better drift, my uncle hits a fish in 5 minutes and after a 20 minute battle on 10lb test with me crossing the river at least 6 times filling my waders at least twice we netted the fish I thought he was gonna have a stroke. So it was a great day, probably 12 fish on two landed and some great memories. Left my camera in the truck but the son took a picture with his smart thing when they send it will share! Something about catching your first salmon by yourself young or old its awesome!!

Awesome!!! Great report john... Pressure seemed not so bad in Altmar around the bridge today. I guess the buzz about your secret spot finally caught up to ya ;)

Hey, was that estaz pattern one I showed ya or one you saw in a pic of a fishes mouth??? If so, yes, its a great time of year for that one. Salmon steel or brown, it will always work ;)

    Extra kudos to your uncle!!!

Sounds like a hard day at the office (3 people no waders).
But a great experience for them all and thereby you.
    Nice work!

Dime was probably in a pic you had posted, I went and bought some couple years ago and have had great success. Our conversation consisted of the color thread used to tie them off with, that is the key I believe. Have used the same fly tied off with many different colors but always kill them with the one color.
