Spin fishing single rubber egg for Salmon advice
Got up to fish for three days last week. Normally fish float reel for Steelhead in November. Stayed well away from any crowds in the Pineville/Sportsmans Pool area and was able to hook a few, landed one coho and a beat up King. There was a good small group of seasoned fisherman, fly and spin fishing both sides of river behind Stoney's campground. There was a consistent amount of hook-ups and occasional landing of a few. Two gentleman fishing along side of me were having alot of success spin fishing a single rubber egg, brown color. As it was sunny both days day one of the gentlemen was kind enough to share his spin rigging method.
6 lb flouro leader attached to another 8 lb flouro secondary line than the mainline on spin reel 15 lb braid. One Split shot off a hanging line at swivel. A simple cast upstream drift and heard quite a few "Fish on" calls. Did see many unhooks and a few line breaks. But is sure is fun hooking them.
Just looking for any advice if anyone has fished this method?
(1) what size hook? I tried a size 4 Mustad, barb or unbarbed, obviously a snell knot hook tie
(2) what size egg? Was able to buy some Mr Egg 1/4 inch pocket pack as All Seasons. Pack suggest fish with one egg or cluster of three.
May be going up again week after Columbus fo a couple days and would like to try this again before the float reel comes out in November.
Any advice or web link to more detail on this rigging would be greatly appreciated!
