You after sharks, or browns and steelhead/rainbows?

If your going for salmon, then 18 - 20lb test and the biggest single hook you can find!   Take plenty of sponge for bait and get your arms ready for a work out.

I like Oak Orchard better in late October, when the browns are stacked in Sandy Creek.  You can actually fish for them and would be able to target both salmon and browns in the area.  The salmon fishing is just a total snag fest circus, but the brown trout fishing is unbelievably good.

I fish oak orchard late Oct to early Nov.....The salmon are dying off and you have a nice supply of browns with steel mixed in....10 pound tippet should get it done....I tried 7 lb but the steelhead kept breaking off.
The browns are typically 6-8 lb but I saw a guy catch at 18 lb last year.

Your normal steelhead set up will work just fine at that time frame.  There will be lots of trout around, take eggs with you.

The last week of october is when I try to go. You get the best of everything. Its the prime of the brown trout run. The steel are starting to come and there are still some fresh salmon coming. Not like earlier in month, but still good. Me I TRY TO steer clear of the salmon. For Me, they can be more work that fun. Most of the time around this time of year. They are just like pulling in a 6 ft. log. Espeacialy in current. If you do want to have fun with a big fresh salmon at that time. And if you want a fun fight. Head up to the dam on the oak. Make your way over to the waterfall side. Now, you will see a small sign that says no fishing, Pay no attention to this. Nobody will bother you and is usually 1 or 2 people fishing there. It is a very large deep hole that will be full of fresh salmon the last week of oct. This is where you will get the best fight. They have room to kick your **** there. they will take you into your backing,do a lot of jumping, and if you get a big one in there, you will need a break after landing. (if you land them). I got a 35 pounder in there once on a 7 weight fly rod. It was a 20-30 min. battle. worth it. A blast.

It's your fish story,so tell it any way you want!!!

Hows the 2nd week of November, when the daylight savings time changes?  Thats the earliest I can take my vacation,  The boss Kinda freaks when i mention the magic word Vacation.  Only 180 hrs to burn before the end of february.

I was also thinking about fishing across new york during that week, anyone loking for a fishing adventure and willing to share expences is welcome.  My biggest steel on a 5wt was 10 1/2lb  thank god the guy next to me had a net!!!!!!!!

The second week of November is still plenty good. The only thing that happens as it gets later in the year is that , you get less and less salmon. and more steel.
