the lake friday

Well Uncle matt and myself hit the big pond at 7am, first time for me out there on my own craft. Must admit was a little nervous. Probably ran out 15 minutes and found the boats,
got in line and started the troll, not a beep so we moved over a bit and did it again.

Marked more fish 10 to 15 feet down then anywhere else, I watched everyone running around and got looks at their gear as they went by. Pretty much same as us. Never saw anyone go for a net. Finally pulled them in and made a big run to out in front of nine mile.

First troll we were marking fish 120 down over 150 of water, marked fish 150 down in 170 of water but not a taker in 5 hours.

Got back to the launch and chatted with others, every one we talked to got blanked, one guy said water temp was 70degrees 70feet down, I say no way but didn't tell him that. We were out so far we ran 25 minutes at 25mph to get back to mexico pt. Big water, Not to discouraged as I got word when I got back that sunday is looking good and the game shall continue

Awesome pic's 3.. Seems like the lake had a little 2 foot roll and maybe a white cap in 1 pic ?
How did the boat feel ?
I don't know what the deal is with the "conga" line.. 120-150 seems awful deep but I am a newbie out there for sure..
Before labor day we caught all (well the few) fish between 80-115 fow in front of the SR toward Sandy..  Seen others come in and out with rods bent..
We would troll for long periods seeing a few fish 20-15' up here and there then there would be a big pod on the bottom - rigger trip if they were active..
Seemed were were doing more circles then following the conga line.. Boats would appear then disappear in and out..
I really gotta think the 60-80 fow range is where action is, but... thats my arm chair opinion..

I'm still game for anything, firewood (oops) ,lake and river gear is packed.. Anyone in town ??

HT 3fan,ditch the lake/boat and hit the river,DSR says the run has begun today with waves of fish coming in.
I was considering a trip next week but can't make it.I guess I'll have to wait for my scheduled trips

You've got a point jack, I've been finding them in quite abundance in 2-5 foot pf water for about a month now ;)

Dime it was 10 to 15 down over 100 fow and deeper sometimes. Jack any snagger can hook a shark I want one to crack a rod down on the lake. Tuna we went east a long ways with no boats in sight without marking fish went back towards the plant cause that's were everyone was. Trolled by the fish doctor and many other charter boats over that way also. As for the river my buddy was in the ballpark area yesterday and hit them good, said steady movement all day

Fan, next time you chart fish that shallow below the surface throw rapala j13 or 18s with a casting rod right from the side of boat. Have never done it myself but have heard first hand that it works well.
Well I'm just ready to walk out the door to hit the river. Can't resist

Dime I tried running dodgers and flashers ten feet down, didn't have lures with me guess I shouldn't have taken the 3 boxes of them out.

If you got em you should bring em... as said never did it myself but know someone who has... Instead of trolling them he just casts them from the side while stopped. Maybe it gets more of a wounded minnow effect????

Hit the lower end this morning. Really good morning blast. At first it was fish eager to just run the river and not stop. They always run up stream when hooked and foul hooks are more probable... usually starts happening this time of year and I noticed in the past that when the lake gets lock jawed the same happens on the lower run. Eventually an hour or so in to it some freshes came through that still had the lake in mind as they were feisty and eager to just head right back to the lake. One I chased from just below the stairs at dsr to the upper end of the flats... I thought it was a large coho as it was bright silver.... after my wading boot cleats falling apart and a 300 yard chased I found it was just twenty pound or so average king... and get this... I lost it just before I could get my hands on it... two Bob... I was good once then I ever was on that chase ;)

No cohoes seen except one dead one enjoy....

Sorry for the hijack john ;)
