Should I?

Hello,

I have been a member here for a while, and usually just read, not post. But I have a question I would like some feedback on.

I have a son who is turning 7 next month. He wants to go fishing. I think I am going to start him with a fly set up.
I have been fly fishing for 6-7 yrs now, but still have a lot to learn.

Should I start him out with a fly rod?
He is 4 foot tall. What size rod?
We are gonna go steelhead fishing in October.

Any feedback welcome

    Start him off with an Echo Gecko (http://www.echoflyfishing.com/html/rod_category_details.php?category_id=6&page_id=19&product_type=1).  That should work for everything you're going after witha fly rod except maybe musky and steelhead.
     
    As far as steel, I'm not really sure.  Most steelhead fly rods would probably be a bit much for him...but idunno.  Maybe an 8wt?  I'd probably just put a noodle rod in his hands up there.
