Catfish in Lake Erie.

Hi all. I just moved to Erie and love to catfish. Could you all help me out with bait/location to fish for them please. I don't have a boat so all my fishing is from shore. I asked one guy about bait and he said to go to giant eagle and get some cook frozen shrimp and use that, is this true? Thanks for hearing me out. Mike

Are you sure he didn't say uncooked? I found that the uncooked ones stay on the hook better & have more smell.  sam

Here's an article I wrote, hope it helps. Raw shell on shrimp is the way to go, not cooked.

If I had a choice, I would use raw.  However, I have been outfished before from time to time from someone who bought "cooked" by mistake.. Don't know what to tell you.

    IMO.. fresher the better.

+1  Also crayfish are a great bait for almost anything that swims with the possibility of not being good for toothy critters. Now there is a possibility that the PF&BC is going to outlaw using them for bait, per the article that was in the Pa. Outdoor Journal. All in all tho I catch cats on cut bait or live gills anywhere I go.Less messy also which is important for those of us that chew tobacco. One night I watched a couple of guys CRUSH the cats at Paradise Lake with crayfish.  sam

I have been out of the cat fishing for awhile, but we use to use chicken livers as well. There are alot of bait out on the market now just for catfish.

You want to use raw shrimp if you are going to use shrimp
