Mine is old and beat-up.....
Does anyone have any experience with the :

Another thumbs up for Lamson...I fish a ULA and a Litespeed, and both have been awesome.

One issue I did encounter with the Litespeed was a bad bearing.  Contacted Lamson about it and they mailed me a replacement free of charge.  A few weeks later, *that* one went bad as well.  I was starting to kind of get turned off on the Lamson brand, but I emailed them again and explained the issue.

A few days later I got a bag of three in the mail.

Not sure if they just had a bad run of them or what, because the first of the three I tried has been flawless for 2 years now.

I have 8 of the 1880 reels. Use them for fresh and salt. The 2000 are good also. Sage is discontinuing the 1800 reels. But still stand by them. Broke a frame at the base by catching it while walking by it in a rod rack on my boat and kicked it they replaced with a whole new reel.

Litespeeds, very good reels, have a 3 3/4 & 4". Used a lot, good drags, no issues. You can always go clicker & do something stupid like I did. Stopped at a certain Erie fly shop to pick up some cones & rabbit strips & just happened to see a Hardy Perfect Taupo sitting on the shelf. After fondling it for a few minutes decided I had to have it, a bargain at $695. Awesome click/pawl reel for a 10' 7wt. or 12 1/2' 5/6 light spey. An impulse purchase, like I needed it. Oh well probably the last reel I'll ever buy. All the Lamsons, even the inexpensive ones, seem to get good reviews. Anyone that wants to go clicker for steelhead, Hardy has a Marguis salmon 1 click/pawl for around $250, a reasonable price.

Re:Looking to upgrade reel... 2013/08/31 16:08:36 (permalink)
this is most likely  a very simple question but I am new to fly fishing and still learning. I was reading the comments yall put up about the lamson kronic so I looked it up an like all of you have said the reviews on it are very good. So I have decided to get one, My question is when I go to select one it ask for fly line weight, I understand line has its own weight pending how deep or shallow you want to go but does this also include the weight of the rod you are using?

The reel size should be the same as the rod weight. Not the actual mass of the rod itself. All fly rods have a weight designation(anywhere from 0-14 or so. But more commonly 5-8.) It's like light, medium, or heavy.the rod and reel should have the same number and the line weight matches up with the rods too. Hope that sorts it out for you.

Both Sage and Lamson have made nice improvements to their line of reels.
The Sage is prettier.

I like Allen fly fishing's reels, but I haven't heard anything but good things for Lamson reels on just about any site I frequent

Uhh dude, I didn't disagree with that, "I haven't heard anything but good things" means, all I hear is good things, you don't hear bad stuff about them.
