Just make sure you properly clean them after fishing waters that have didymo!

Why would you want felt anyway?  I seem to remember something about it being done away with because it is too hard to clean after fishing infected waters.

Quite a few states are banning them or considering a ban. With rock snot in neighboring states I would suggest using cleats instead of felt. Also for winter steelhead I always found felt to grab a lot of snow making it difficult to walk.

    Tru dat, and ice....

Honestly though, felt has it's advantages and as long as you take the precautions they aren't all that bad.

How do the studded rubber soles work in Erie? I've always been a felt sole guy, but would like to change. And not fall on my****all the time. I saw a company came out wboots with aluminum bars in the soles that are supposedly the next best thing. Any body have experience with those?

    Another vote here for Korkers.
They are a bit pricey but well worth it.
They outlast the waders which I replace every season, had mine for 3 seasons.
If you steelhead fish the cleats work great no slipping and sliding around.
As for the waders I still am searching for a pair that will last me more than 1 season.

Studded are the best. Especially with the soft shale bottoms that we have up here. They grip like nothing else.  A friend of mine was using felt and I bought him studs for Christmas one year--he never went back. Where you step is where you stay.

Get a pair of Simms G3's with a pair of studded riversheds or guide boots and you will be good to go.Cleats are great on the rocks,in the snow, and on the ice.

I'd try to stray from felt, I know that it's banned in quite a few states and probably been tossed around the PFBC quietly currently...  With all the didyimo and Asian Carp scares I'm sure that banning felt will be soon enough to PA.  I use rubber sole boots to no issue I have a pair of Red Head hip waders and a pair of Cabela's Three forks breathable chest waders and have worn both in Erie with no issues.
