Happy Birthday to ME!

A buddy of mine is bringing me up to fish for 'eyes this Saturday, for my birthday. I can't wait. He says we'll launch wherever the bite is hottest, so please help me out guys. Send me PM's or post on here and help me out. I won't share your spots with anyone, I promise. I don't get to do this very often and the last 3 yrs I've been up, I got skunked. I haven't caught a walleye out of Erie (PA side) in over three years. That's about 6 trips. I really want to bring home some fish this time. I just hope the weather cooperates. It seems like every time I go out anymore, it calls for 2ft waves and I end up with 6ft rollers. That just takes the fun out of it. It's even worse when you can't catch anything. So, I'll be collecting reports until Friday night if you would be so kind as to keep me informed. Thanks a bunch. I'll do the same for you if I can.

Thanks for the tip on the perch, E. I will be trolling on this trip.

    Freshwaterdrummer, THANK YOU

Slick, I checked out a couple of those coordinates that got deleted. I laughed so hard at the one location, that I spit my pop onto my computer! You guys are a blast. Can't be serious all the time. Gotta have some fun once in a while! LOL!

When the lake flips, don't the walleye come closer to the top?

Nope. I swear that storm clouds freakin' follow me every where I go. I remember how I used to go out on Erie on 2-3ft, gentle waves, lots of sunshine, and lots of fish. I miss those days.

Dropped to 40% rain and 9mph SSW winds. I might get lucky after all. Well, if anyone goes out today, I sure would appreciate a report. I want to thank all those who have already sent me reports as well. Hopefully I can post a few pics of a full ticket when I get back.

    Re:Happy Birthday to ME! 2013/07/08 09:48:54 (permalink)
Well, today is my birthday and I have some wonderful news to report. First off, thank all of you that sent me info either on this thread or in PM's. I really appreciated it. I'd also like to thank my friend and fishing guide who took me out for two days in a row on Erie, out of Connie in OH. His generosity is only exceeded by his fishing skills. I've had a few firsts this weekend, so I'll share them.

This was the first time that I fished Lake Erie two days in a row.
This was the first time that I limited out on walleye in two consecutive trips to Erie. Actually, if you want to get technical, this makes 3 consecutive limits on walleye because I limited out in Port Clinton on June 16! I just realized that. That's awesome! LOL!
This was the first time I caught a limit of walleye and a limit of perch on the same day.
I got my first Fish Ohio Award for an 8lb 10oz monster!

So, I had a wonderful weekend. On Saturday we got a 2 man limit of perch and boated 9 walleye. My buddy let me catch my limit first so that I could limit out. We found the fish and what they wanted about an hour before we had to leave. If we would have had another hour to fish, we would have punched the second ticket easily. On Sunday, the wind was WSW and then due W. The waves got a little gnarly. We had constant 4-5 footers with some 6 footers thrown in for fun. We had a couple of chinese firedrills with junk (still fun) but picked at the walleye for 6 hrs to punch a two man ticket.

So I'm sunburned, exhausted, and still fighting that virus or whatever it is, but I'm one happy man with a freezer full of fish. I hope everyone has as good of luck on Erie as I've had this weekend. Thanks again for your help guys.

Thanks Mika. I forgot to take pics of Sunday's walleye before I cleaned them. They were just as impressive as Saturday's haul. Makes me mad. I hate forgetting to take pics. lol.

AHHHH! Gotcha Bud! I've tried that recipe on crappie. It was ok. I'll tell ya what I did with some of these fresh walleye though. I soaked it in milk, then I poured some italian bread crumbs in a container, added some lemon/pepper, garlic, seasalt, and black pepper. I then shook a layer of parmesean cheese over the top of the bread crumbs. I placed a fillet on top of the cheese layer and pushed down. Then I scooped crumbs over the top and pressed down. Then I sprinked more cheese over the top. I put my fillets on a wire rack over a cookie sheet and baked in the oven for 25 minutes at 400. Remove from heat and let set for about 10 minutes. If  you don't let it set, the fish is too juicy and the crumbs fall off. After it sets up, remove from the rack and serve. It's one of the healthier ways to cook fish and it's freaking delicious. I highly recommend it.
