Bay smallies

Anyone been out for smallies yet? What is the water temp? Would like to take the boat up Sunday and catch a few

Thanks!
Justin

I have been looking for a way to tell what the water temperature is around Erie. I found a site under Winds and Waves on the Fish Erie Web page. It shows the temps for the lake around Erie. I don't know how it works for the bay.

We were on the bay last saturday(4/6) looking for some steelhead.  Temps were 40-46.  The warmest water was in marina bay and on the city side of the bay. Not sure how much that has changed since though.  We didnt catch any fish, or see any fish caught.  We talked to a group of guys that had 8 boats total fishing for bass, no one on any of their boats even had a bite. The water was stained pretty good.

We were just out on the bay yesterday and we were reading 42-43 degrees. The water was extremely dirty, about 6" of visibility.

Wow only 6in visibility! Because of all the rain or what? Is there still a lot of shad in the bay like the reports from ice fishing

As eyedreamn said, dead shad everywhere. The boat launch and shore is covered with them. We ran over about 15 just launching the boat. Make sure you put the truck in 4 wheel drive as you pull out of the launch. If not, your back wheels will mash up some shad for dinner!

Well, looks like I'll scrap the trip this weekend. I have some friends coming up from DC the first weekend of May so hopefully things will improve by then. Thanks for the updates, appreciate it.

Anyone fish over the weekend? I'm sure the water is cold and muddy after this front

Look for the weekly fishing report in the Erie Times on Fridays.  They'll let you know when they are moving. It's usually pretty brief, but it's a decent starting point.

    Bigger is better.

If you are looking for some outstanding smallie catching, hit the Ohio river. Haven't checked the water temperature(don't have to); they are hot.
