I am going to give it a try on Elk on Opening Day!

Usually I camp and try for Trout on Opening Day in the ANF.
This year will be a first... I am going to a friends place and trying
for Browns and leftover Steelhead on Elk.  Wish me luck!
Going to use Fly & Spinning Rod.

    Elk is usualy pretty slammed at the popular access points on opening day...  Just an FYI.  Lots of people come out just for the stocked browns that are put in on friday.  Crowds will be no less than any other stocked trout stream.

    I actually feel bad for those stocked trout.  They have no chance.

    if you know what your doing elk creek is the best trout stream in the whole state. you can get browns and steelheads all day long. the guys that go to elk for the first day have no idea what they are doing so the steelhead dont get caught. I fished elk opening day last year and caught 20 steelhead like 10 smallmouth and stocked browns the rest of the time.

    I actually don't understand how trout stocking works. Obviously, people put trout in the stream, before anybody says anything smart.  What I am asking is how does it work in terms of distribution.  For example, do the volunteers just put them in hole, say rick road and it's up to the trout to spread out, or do the volunteers walk along the stream and put them in a bunch of different spots.  Thanks.

    Oh yeah?  Shoulda seen 16 Mile.  Caught about 40 steelhead and like 20 smallmouth and stocked browns all day long.  Slammed em.
