One Fly
Well it was really 7 of the same pattern and absolutely slaughtered them.
Last night turned out to be a late one hanging out with good local folk so when that alarm went off at 5am, so did it..
Rolled outta the rack about 6:30 and thinking to myself, ain't no way I'll find a parking spot this late so I moped around at the lodge until around 7:15 and drove up expecting just a drive by.. WRONG, 3, yes 3 cars in the lot so out came the rod and down I went.. Could not believe there were only 2 guys fishing the first easy spot and they were on the north bank.. Killer !!!
So I make 1 errant cast into a BRUTAL wind, then another and I'm tight to a beautiful domestic bow of about 5#'s.. Hummmm, It still works !!!
It was absolutely SILLY and fish were hammering the fly.. I had one fish just break the 3X=8.5 tippet (no need at all for lighter) right on the take, well maybe it was my poor knots seein as it takes me almost 10 mins to tie one on..
Anyway , The wind and snow was insane and luckily within 3-4 casts I was tight to a fish.. Non-Stop !!
Forgot the net in truck and I started losing flies to fish due to the landing area I was fishing..
After about 2 hrs I was FROZE so walked back to warm up, get net and look at different water, but with same results.. Fish On !!
I got one Dimebright fresh from the lake chromer that ran, leaped and after a lengthy battle he came to hand..
My one fly inventory was starting to diminish in fishes mouths and I was hoping Id catch one back, Nope, all new fish and all caught within 3-4 casts..
Landed a beautiful Red Stripe clean male around 15-16# that I would have loved to have a picture of but thought I forgot the camera until later I realized it was around my neck..Duh !!
Took 1 and only 1 picture all morning of well over 30 fish played with in 41/2 hrs fishing.. When those flies ran out so did I .. I never tied on another pattern at all.
I was whooped and 1/2 frozen to death so as Charlie said, get out while the gettins good and I did..
Absolutely LOADED in the 2 spots with fish and every single one was hooked well, some I had to dig deep to get the fly back..
Even though my fishing time was short , the memory of today will live long..
Good luck to all that get out
Peace & Tuna
