recently moved to Erie and looking for advice

I recently moved to the Erie area from the west end of the lake (the land of cast and catch).  Finished outfitting the boat to troll for walleye and just picked up 6 rods with LC reels.  Plan to run with dipseys at least to start off.  Looking for advice on type of line (mono or braid) and how much to spool on.  If I use braid should it be backed up with mono?  I have never backed it up on my spinning reels but trolling is new to this old guy.....

    going to be trying a heavy weight braid on my dipsey rods this summer.  also got the backing.  putting about 50 yards of backing on first just to protect the reel spool and to have a firm grasp on that spool.  going with braid because it doesn't stretch like mono or fluoro and have been having a heck of a time popping the dipseys. figure it might be due to stretching line.

    I run 30# braid for my Dipsey's, and it seems to work out fine. I just started backing my braid with mono to fill the spool, as I wasnt getting an accurate line count.

    Thanks guys and good point on filling th spool for a better count BH.

    30# power pro, fill spools equally and do a check on line count measurement... start saving to buy all the other stuff you're gonna want soon, planer boards and mast, downriggers and a myriad of lures, spoons and harnesses... Good luck 

    Curiosity killed the cat, but for awhile I was a suspect.

    I agree with Bulldog.....buy more gear if you can. A planner mast and boards will increase your walleye season dramatically! You can hit the spring night walleye with mono rods (8-12 fow) and follow the fish into 40-50 fow simply by changing your lures and maybe adding some weight. You can switch those rods to lead core when the walleye get into deeper water. I know it's tough to get started but keep your eyes open for second hand gear and you can get set up rather cheaply.
